Epiphany ~ Chapter 15.

Start from the beginning

"I see, do you know where his mother is?" I asked,

"She also moved away from this village shortly after Nico and his father did; she couldn't bare to live here considering the circumstances of their break up, but she didn't go too far I believe- she said she wouldn't anyway."

"Right, Thank you." Guren said,

"No worries, good luck finding her. If you are from the Japanese Imperial Demon Army I believe this will be a piece of cake to you." She grinned,

I smiled back, not correcting her about not being there anymore, it would be too risky letting anyone know who I was,

"Of course," Guren nodded, "Also I have a question if you don't mind me asking,"

"Go ahead,"

"As you know the virus took out anyone who was over 13 and wasn't part of the Japanese Imperial Demon Army, it feels rude to ask, but how are you still alive?"

She chuckled, "No, no- it's not rude at all. Funnily enough I'd like to know myself as well, but I don't. I had to look after all the young children who lost their parents when it hit; yet I have no idea myself." She shook her head,

"Ah, Thank you for answering our questions. We'll do our best to find Nico's mother." He thanked her,

"Not to worry young ones, before you go- please take something with you." She began to pack some pastries in a paper bag,

"Oh no, not for free at least." I shook my head, taking out my purse,

"No, no. I insist! At least for Nico." She smiled at the boy who was eyeing the treats."

I chuckled at the sight of him, "I should still pay you-"

"No, of course not, please have a safe journey," She almost pushed us out the bakery, refusing to take any money from us,

I laughed as we thanked her again, "Let's go Nico." I said, showing him the bag of pastries,

His eyes lit up as he came bounding out of the shop, we began walking again and I saw Nico take out a cookie,

"She was nice." I cheesed,

"She was-" Guren seemed to be distant,

I turned to face him, "Are you ok?"

He was quiet for a bit before he finally sighed, "No actually, as nice as she was she's also suspicious."

"Suspicious? I don't think an old lady could harm anybody." I frowned,

"You'd be surprised," he murmured, "Her explanation of how she survived the virus wasn't so convincing."

"I don't know, she's old you know, maybe..." I silently suggested, shrugging,

"Even with old age you cannot forget a tragedy like that." He shook his head, "I want to take her word for about Nico's mother though."

"Fair enough, we should tell Goshi and Shigure." I suggested,

He agreed, and we arranged to meet with the other pair, we exchanged all the information we found out and began heading for our next destination,

"You guys have fun?" Goshi smirked,

"I don't know what you're getting at here?" I raised an eyebrow at him,

"How was it, Shigure?" Guren asked his assistant,

"Not bad. Can't say the same for my partner." She glared at him,

"Are you snitching?" He said in a warning tone, but Shigure didn't seem to care one bit,

"Yes, that is my job."

"You're off duty." He retorted,

"I'm never off duty to Master Guren." She said monotonously,

As they argued Guren's phone suddenly started ringing.

"Oh Sayuri." He greeted, although shortly after, his face fell, "Where are you?" He began walking faster, "Ok, we'll be right there. Hold out for as long as you can." He hung up immediately,

"The other group weren't as lucky and stepped into vampire territory."

"Oh crap, we should hurry then." My eyes widened in panic as we all set off in a newfound hurry.
