It was cloudy outside while May Rifkin sat in her classroom, listening to her teacher's voice booming to the class early in the morning.

"It's looking very good. No. Doing good." The man commends while looking to the other students. "Be careful taking that out. We don't wanna make a mess."

"That's what she said." Jacob jokes, even causing May, who was sitting across from him to let out a small chuckle while the other kids did the same.

She looks up at Jacob for a moment, smiling lightly as he returns the gesture. Jacob grins a little after, glad that he had gotten people to laugh, to be joyful.

"What are we doing here? What are you dipping? That is—" before the teacher could finish his sentence, the intercom cuts him short.

"Attention. Archer is now on lockdown effective immediately. All students are to remain in their classrooms..."

Everyone stands up from their seats, making their way to the windows. Curiously, May follows.

"Guys, I can't hear the announcement." The teacher says in attempt to quiet them. He walks to the light switch, flipping the lights off.

"Over here, against the wall, please. Sit down. Stay quiet." He instructs, everyone rushing to the wall, taking out their phones.

May is no exception, and reaches for her phone. Her first instinct, is to call her twin brother, Ben, and check if he had made it to school that morning.

Usually, May and Ben would walk to school together through the park, but she had sprained her ankle last week, and was driven instead. Their parents had offered him a ride as well, though Ben had insisted that walking would be better.

She quickly clicks on his contact, holding the phone up to her ear. The ringing goes on for quite a while, until there was no response. "This is Ben Rifkin, leave a message." Says the voice of her brother, before the obnoxious beep.

She sighs, hanging up, and instead, dialing her mother. While she waits for her to pick up, she glances up, catching Jacob's eye, he kept staring at her, which made her a little uncomfortable.

"Hey, honey. Is everything alright?" Mrs. Rifkin asks. "Well, yes, I'm fine. The school is on lockdown and we don't know why. Could you try and call Ben? He hasn't answered me." She explains.

"Yes, I'll have your father call him. Just, do what your teacher says, okay? If anything happens, please call me again." The woman instructs. "Will do. Alright, bye, Mom."
