"Anung ginagawa mo dito?" sabay naming tanong sa isa't isa. may moment of stare down pa na naganap. Napatigil kami nong napansin namin na tinitingnan na kami ng mga kasamahan namin at ng may biglang magsalita.
"Hmmm.. sorry to cut your reunion moment, magkakilala ba kayo?" tanong ng clinical preceptor na hindi pa namin nakikilala, pabaling baling ang tingin nya sa aming dalawa ni Bea.
"A-hh, yes po, w-we're actually classmates back in college, in our pre. med course" bea retorted with a fake smile which I find it obvious, I know you so well and I just nodded in agreement. mukhang naniniwala naman sila, well that's partly true naman.
"Oh, so in that case, I can expect you two to work harmoniously, especially here in the very busy area, it is important that you get along well with your colleagues." she said with her raised eyebrows as she look at us waiting for an answer.
"Of course ma'am" I answered and smile at her. napatingin naman ako sa gawi ni Bea na tatlong tao lang ang pagitan sa akin sabay bawi ng aking ngiti. I saw her smirked at me. kapal talaga.
"Well, I think that's too much for introduction. By the way, my name is Dr. Zoey Chu, I'm a senior Specialist here in ER. you will be under my watch until the end of your rotation and that will be a long and draining 2 months for sure. Since you will all be working with each other, I think it's about time to introduce yourself." She said while looking at us. I can sense that she's boyish by her looks, she has a semi-short pixie haircut which suits her well by the way and toned biceps muscles. nasa 6 foot tall ata si Doc, quite taller than me. Teka, bat ko ba to napapansin. focus! focus! maddie.
Agad naman nag pakilala ang bawat isa.
"Hi my name is Deanna Wong, a graduate from Cebu Doctors University" mukhang boyish din to, medyo mahiyain pero smiling face and papi naman.
"Hi Doctors, I'm Therese Gaston, I graduated from Ateneo De Manila University" itong isang to, anak mayaman for sure, curly long hair and she has an angelic smile. She's beautiful indeed.
"Hi guys, my name is Rex Intal, I graduated from UP college of medicine" Ui, looks like the only fish in the sea, nag.iisang lalaki, gwapo at mukha namang mabait.
"Hi, I'm Jhoanna Maraguinot, I graduated from California institute of technology" whoow.. may international graduate kaming kasama, in fairness, she looks humble and demure. She's pretty on her semi short haircut just at her shoulder level and fair tanned skin.
"Hello, my name is Madelaine Madayag, from St. Luke's college of medicine, you can call me maddie" pakilala ko. sabay smile sa kanilang lahat.
" Hi, I'm Beatriz De leon, please call me Bea" Oh, low key? ayaw sabihin san graduate. tatanong ko sana huwag nalang baka anu pa isipin.
"Ok, It's nice to meet you all, as you all know per batch ang internship dito, for the first year of your internship before your residency, you will get familiar with different specialties. I must say that your batch is very fortunate to have been chosen here in ER, dito pa lang you will get to learn many things at mga specialties that will eventually help you as you go on to your career. So, have some time with each other, I will be attending the ground rounds with residents and then I will be back to give you a tour and orientation within ER vicinity." Dr. Chu explained then left to do her errands.
Everyone was quiet until Rex broke it with a deep sigh then he sat down in an empty bed near us. He gained our attention so we all looked at him.
"Ang lalim! nakakalunod na man yun Doc" sabat ni Deanna. napangiti naman ng hilaw si Rex
"I just can't believe that I'm finally here, like dude, I'm a Doctor now but here we go again, clinical areas, requirements, conferences et al, nonstop." Rex said with a dismayed voice, nagsisisi kaya sya? totoo naman kasi after 4 years in college and 4 years in medical school plus board exam and reviews, eto balik na na man, like baby steps again.
"Ganyan talaga we all want this, right? So sacrifices are part of it" pakikisali ni therese sa usapan na tumabi sa akin ng bahagya.
"We'll get there in no time, what's important is we are here and we are making our dreams come true" a positive response from Jhoanna. something we need to hear, I guess.
"By the way, you guys know each other right? where did you go for college?" Sabi ni therese na kasalukuyang nasa tabi at papalit palit ang tingin sa amin ni Bea, tiningnan ko naman si Bea as if telling her to say-something-dahil-dyan-ka-magaling, nasa kaliwang bahagi ko sya na may dalawang taong distansya sa akin, kasi nga lumipat si therese sa tabi ko.
"Ah, we studied at Ateneo back in college, I took a pharmacy degree and she took up Clinical Nutrition, and we're block mates in some subjects." Bea well said. She looked at me sabay irap (note: Im not sure if they offer that courses ah, fiction lang)
"Oh, nag Ateneo din pala kayo pareho bat di nalang kayo nag.proceed ng medicine dun, sayang, we could have been classmates then." nakangiting sabi ni therese. I just nodded and gave her a smile. as much as possible ayoko nang maungkat ang meron kami ni bea at malaman pa nila lahat. I'm sure Bea's thinking is the same as mine.
"So, Bea saan ka nag tapos ng med.? hindi mo ata nasabi kung saan ka graduate" Rex curiously asked bea, oo nga naman buti na lang at natanong ni Rex, though I do not care at all, just to be fair lang to all of us.
"Yeah, I forgot, I graduated in Australia." she smiled while holding her nape with her left hand. hmm.. International graduate din pala. Doon ka pala nagtago after mo akong iwan.
After more or less 30 minutes ay bumalik na si Dr. Chu, she gave us some handouts for orientation then we proceeded for a tour within Emergency room. All areas are busy, I saw how excited and amazed are my batchmates, it's obvious with their facial expressions pero ako heto kinakabahan hindi ko alam kong ma.susurvive ko ba tong ER lalo na't makakasama ko pa si Bea.
" Alright, I guess that's all for today, as of now we can't provide you a shifting schedule so all of you should come in the morning shift, just so you know we are lacking of manpower as well kaya you will be a great addition sa team, so please come early tomorrow for your first day duty and please no late." Sabi ni Dr. Chu sabay tingin sa aming dalawa ni Bea. Napalunok nalang ako sabay tango sa kanya.
"Yes, Doc." Sagot ng mga kasamahan namin.
"Okay you may leave" tugon naman ni Dr. Chu na agad namang umalis sa grupo namin.
After we clocked out ay agad na man kaming nagtungo sa isang conference hall for a quick hospital orientation joined by other medical interns and then sabay sabay na rin kaming naglakad palabas ng Hospital. Bea didn't come with us, na una syang nagpaalam dahil may pupuntahan pa raw sya.
"Let's go, coffee!" therese excitedly exclaimed.
"Yeah, I think that's a good idea, let's have some bonding. Come on!" sabat naman ni Rex as we continue to walk through the hospital lobby. I noticed that jhoanna and Deanna nodded like they agree for it.
"Ah sorry but I'll join you next time guys ok? I need to go somewhere pa eh" I responded, then politely excuse myself to go first.
