[33] Fuck the Police | The Bell Tower I | Tease

Start from the beginning

JJ deescalated the situation by grabbing ahold of Pope's shoulder, pulling him close and pressing the Juul to his chest. "I'm here for you, Pope. Welcome to my world, okay?"

"JJ–" I began to speak, but he cut me off.

"What, Winslow? He's right," He said, shrugging his shoulders. "It doesn't matter anymore."

I know I shouldn't be thinking of JJ and I's relationship at the moment, but I couldn't help but to relax at the old nickname. His nickname for me. Something that only he called me. It was refreshing to know there was still a bit of normalcy after everything that happened between us– the good and the bad.

We watched as Pope leaned against a pole, sighing to himself as he brought the Juul to his lips, breathing in the contents and exhaling it out. "You don't have to do that!" Kiara snapped, getting frustrated with the boys.

"What do you care?" Pope shot back. Suddenly, his expression changed, turning into a look of worry. The three of us whipped our heads around to see what he was looking at.

John B stood there, swaying side to side with blood on his hands and shirt. I felt the air leave my lungs as we sprinted over to John B. As I approached, my eyes got a good look at all the blood on his hands. I let out a shaky breath, feeling my stomach turn inside out.

"Dude! Dude, you good?"

"Oh, my God! John B!"

"John B, who's blood is that," I asked sternly, my eyes never leaving his shaking fingers.

"Is it yours?" JJ worried, picking up John B's bloody hand to inspect it. The sound of sirens flooded my ears, but I couldn't look away from John B's hand, a dark, sick feeling bubbling in my stomach as I thought of the different ways he could've gotten that blood on his hands. I gulped, wondering where Ward, Sarah, and the police officer were.

"John B, are you okay?" Kiara asked, her voice cracking as she pleaded for an answer. Everyone scrambled to hide as the sound of sirens became too loud to ignore, the vehicles shooting past the street we were on. We ducked behind cardboard boxes, and only dared to peak over them once the sirens grew softer.

"John B, I need answers. Now," I growled. Everything was alarming. The blood, the police sirens, and his behaviour. I was nervous, thinking something went terribly wrong on the runway and John B was in the middle of it all.

"I-I... He... She's dead," John B whispered, looking blankly ahead.

"What did you do." My eyes watered as I thought about all the possibilities, each one more sinister than the last. His eyes lifted up from the ground, meeting my own in a frightened gaze.

"Rafe Cameron shot Peterkin."

The sun was down when Kiara pulled into the parking lot of the police station. I sat next to JJ in the very back of the car, the space much too small for two people but there was no way in hell I was sitting next to Kiara. Sure, a part of me enjoyed being close to JJ, but a bigger part of me couldn't stand the tension between Kiara and I.

"John B, what are we doing at the police station," JJ asked, his voice stone cold as Kiara pulled the keys out of the ignition, swinging her body around to face us and join the conversation.

"Somebody's gotta tell gem what happened," John B said, barely above a whisper. I nodded, agreeing with that he said. Pope bursted into a fit of coughs, his lungs not being able to handle the amount he's been smoking all night.

"Ooh," JJ whistled. "Easy there, chief."

"Better yet, I think that's enough," I said, reaching over the seat to snatch the joint out of Pope's hand, but he swatted my hand away as he tried to control his coughing. I put my hands up defensively, sitting back. He'll regret not letting me take the drug away from him later.

John B was silent, staring ahead as he gathered the courage to get out of the car. JJ leaned forward, trying to make eye contact with John B. "Alright. I'm just gonna be real with you right now. You might end up in the lion's den, but you don't go there on purpose. It's fundamental. Just like my old man always told me, you should never ever trust cops, no matter what the circumstance is."

"Your old man's an abusive liar," Kiara mumbled, rolling her eyes.

"I agree with JJ," Pope piped up. "Fuck the police."

I scoffed, shaking my head. "This is how stories get twisted, fuckfaces. He needs to tell them what happened, or someone—"

"She doesn't know what she's talking about," JJ interrupted, discrediting what I said. "She's a Kook, the police love her."

I glared at the blonde boy sitting across from me, his legs brushing against my own. "I'm sorry, JJ. Did the middle of my sentence interrupt the beginning of yours?"

"I'm just saying!" Pope snapped, gaining everybody's attention back. "When's the last time the police ever helped us?"

"Peterkin looked out for me, alright?" John B defended, silencing all of our bickering within the vehicle. "Tried to, at least. They need to know."

JJ ran a frustrated hand through his hair as John B got out of the vehicle, softly closing the door the door behind him.

It had only been three minutes of silence before John B came barreling out of the police station, screaming at Kie to start the car. Everything was chaos as John B flung open the door, slamming it behind him as we tried to question him. But, he wasn't spilling anything right now, he only pleaded with Kiara to get moving. And so she did.

I gasped as female fingers latched onto the open window, holding on as Kie hit the gas. John B grunted, fighting with the police officer to get her away from the door. The officer yelled for Kie to pull over, but John B opened the door, sending the woman flying off of the car.

We breathed heavily, confusion filling the car as we drove away, leaving whatever happened at the police station in the dust. Though, I was sure it wouldn't be long before it caught up to us.
