In the east side of Norway.
June 2nd, 1590
I was finally coming home after almost 2 months of helping the neighbour farm. It's a few miles apart, but they are really nice. But I couldn't wait to see my mom's face. She had been stuck with my stepdad for so long. She had sent me a letter a week earlier and told me it was urgent that I got home. Could it have gone worse between them?
They have been married for almost a year. Haavel was a very wealthy guy a while back but then lost everything in a fire, and then found me and my mom. I can see it in his eyes that he wants us dead. I hope I'm not too late. What if he has already killed my mom. No! I can't leave her there. I must help her, so we can finally get the peace we need.
It was a nightmare to walk in this plain, with no sign of life anywhere. It didn't help that my eyes were so dry by the wind. I had to forcefully shut my eyes because of it.
After a very long time, I could finally see the gate to our farm, with two torches lighting up. None of the farm animals was outside either, not surprising since I myself almost froze to death.
I walked towards the door to our house, and I slowly opened it up. I felt a slight warmth inside coming from the fire on the right side of the room. I took a few logs on top of the fire, and it sent a satisfaction of warmness all over my body. It's indescribable how good it felt. Just those three logs made such an impact.
I almost forgot what I came here to do. The fire had melted all my senses in an instant. I tried to raise my body up, so I could wake up my mom, but then I started to shake. I gave up after only one try, thinking she would notice the sudden change of temperature in the room. I could see the door to her bedroom from where I laid down.
I don't know how long I've been laying here, but my body still won't let me rise up. At that moment I hear a slight "Creek" it's my mom, she has woken up and runs towards me, hugging me, and then starts crying "it's so great to see you my dear" she whispers.
I could tell she had cried for a long time now. Haavel and mom most probably have fought again, but where was he? That wasn't the most important thing to think about right now. We had to just pack our stuff and get out of here as quick as possible.
I slowly lifted my arm towards her soaked eyes and pushed away from the tears, I slowly opened my mouth to ask, "what happened?". But before she could manage to tell me anything... I started hearing a loud noise, almost like a herd of horses. No, it can't be it. I'm probably hallucinating it. Why would there be horses so far out, and especially a herd of it! My mom was still leaning towards me, but when someone from the outside starts saying "Here they are". Then my mom raises her head up and she stares at the door. I started staring too, shortly after. We both knew who it was.
We heard footsteps coming slowly towards the door. We could feel the coldness lurking inside, as the door opens slightly, and in came a silhouette of a thin but tall man. He comes closer and you see his yellow eyes come to life, and they were staring at us. His mouth got wide and formed into a smile, and then his mouth starts forming the words "Witches".
