I waited impatiently for Saturday to come and when it finally did I began to panic. I had exactly thirty minutes until Ashur arrived and I was already second guessing my choice of outfit.
We were just going to the movies so I figured a casual pair of jeans and a nice shirt would do. I put my blonde hair up in a high pony tail and carefully lined my eyes with some black eyeliner before smudging on some eye shadow.
Would he like what I was wearing? God, I was so inexperienced with guys! Especially ones as hot as Ashur. I couldn't help but picturing him without a shirt on and I was practically drooling all over myself.
The doorbell rang and he was ten minutes early.
"Hm." my dad grunted. "At least he's punctual."
I smiled at him and reminded him not to be too harsh on him. It's not like he could talk to him like he was some sex driven teenager. Ashur and my dad are only thirteen years apart with Ashur being twenty-four and my dad being thirty-seven.
I answered the door while my dad stood a few feet behind me, watching every move that Ashur made. The first thing he did was hand me a boquet of flowers which made me blush. I hugged them to my chest and breathed in their scent.
"Thanks. You didn't have to get me flowers."
"I know, but I wanted to." he said.
The next thing Ashur did was walk up to my dad and introduced himself, holding out his hand for him to shake.
"Ashur Redwood." he said curtly.
"Victor White."
Oh god, you knew it was serious when my dad used his full name. Usually he just introduces himself as Vic which is what my mom always used to call him.
"Nice to meet you Mr. White. Thank you for letting me take your daughter out tonight. I promise I'll have her home safely. I'm just not sure when."
My dad's eyes widened a fraction and he looked like he was about to blow his top off, but before an altercation took place I grabbed Ashur's hand and dragged him out the front door, bidding a goodbye to my dad, telling him I'd be home soon.
As soon as we were out the door I punched Ashur in the arm.
"So much for putting on the charm!" I snapped.
"Sorry I couldn't resist teasing him. It's been a long time since I've taken a girl out on a date."
I smiled a little bit. "Oh I know. I've heard all of the rumours about you Mr. Redwood. Luring girls in with that seductive smile of yours, having fun with them for a night then sending them away the next morning."
He at least had the decency to blush a little and look away. He rubbed the back of his neck and gave me a sheepish smile.
"I'll admit that my past isn't so full of praise."
He stopped talking to open the passanger side door to his old blue Ford truck and I climbed in. As soon as he started the engine and pulled out onto the road he began to talk again. I was surprised at how open he was being about this and felt somewhat pleased at it.
"I had a weird way of dealing with my rejection. Instead of wallowing in self pity like a normal person I used women to get over it. Now that I look back on it though it seems really stupid." he muttered in embarrasment.
"It's not stupid." I reasured him. "People deal with things differently."
"So how are you dealing with your rejection?" he asked.
I shrugged and tried to look indifferent. "Well, you're actually helping me quite a bit. I know it's only been a couple of days and it still hurts but the thing is I never loved him. Actually I despised him. He was such a jerk to me my whole life that when I found out he was my mate I was....disappointed. How could the fates give me a mate that cruel?"
"I guess we both lucked out in getting rejected then."
We arrived at the movie theatre in town just before eight thirty. It was practically empty except for a select few people and knowing my luck one of those people was Greg along with his slut Ashley.
I tried to hide behind the hulk that was Ashur but Greg caught my scent as soon as I entered the building and his eyes scanned the room for me.
"Hey Katie!" he yelled out.
I couldn't not stop to say hi or else he'd think I was avoiding him...which I so obviously was trying to do.
"Hey Greg." I muttered reluctantly.
I felt Ashur tense beside me once he realized who he was and I looked at him pleadingly so he wouldn't say or do anything drastic.
"What are you doing here?" Greg asked, coming too close for comfort.
"I'm on a date with Ashur."
I gestured to Ashur and Greg's eyes flicked over to him as if to survey him.
"Why the hell are you on a date with this loser?" he practically growled.
I almost laughed at that. Almost. "Excuse me? I'm not the one on a date with the school slut you ignorant, heartless bastard son of a -"
"Come on Katie, lets go. We don't want to miss the movie." Ashur said gently.
He grabbed my hand and tugged me away while the rude words I had on my lips died away at his touch.
"I - I'm sorry Ashur. I don't know what came over me. I just got so defensive."
"It's okay. You were defending me like most female mates do. I like that." he whispered the last part in my ear which caused me to shiver. "Don't look now but the idiot is glaring our way."
I looked across the room at the ticket booth and sure enough Greg was shooting daggers at us. I stuck my tongue out at him rather childishly before begging Ashur to buy a bag of extra buttery popcorn that we could share and some coke. He gladly obliged and I went to go find seats in the theatre. I normally sat up front but Ashur said he preferred the back so I sat down in the very back row and waited for him.
Unfortunately he took longer to get here than Greg did and while he made Ashley sit down in the middle row he came up and took a seat next to me.
"What are you doing Greg?" I asked rudely.
"I'm sitting next to my mate." he stated as if it were obvious.
"I'm not your mate. Your rejected me, remember?"
He shrugged. "So what?"
"Greg get out of here." I demanded.
The previews started to play and I prayed that Ashur would be here soon. I didn't want Greg to ruin our first date.
"No, you're mine and I won't sit by and watch that rogue stake a claim on you."
"That rogue is a better man than you'll ever be!" I snapped.
My wolf was starting to come out and before I could full out attack Greg for being so rude Ashur showed up and gave Greg a warning growl.
"Move before I make you." he ordered.
Greg merely shook his head and Ashur had him by the front of his shirt faster than you can blink.
"D-don't hit me!" Greg screamed as he cocked back his fist.
Ashur flung him to the ground and he scampered away to his little slut. My breathing was extremely rapid and I was still seeing red. Why was I being so protective and defensive over Ashur? We aren't even mates and I barely know him.
As if sensing my distress he sat down next to me and wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
"Calm down, it's alright." he tried to contain his laughter. "You don't have to defend me Katie, I'm a big boy. Even though it is kind of sexy when you do."
I blinked and shook my head. The movie had just started and I leaned comfortably onto his shoulder, enjoying the moment.
Greg was definitely not going to ruin our first date. In fact he might have made it even better.
