At Value City Arena tonight, the Providence College Friars open the season with a weekend series with the Ohio State Buckeyes in Columbus. With 6:16 left in the first period, Nick Saracino scored his first goal of the season to make it 1-0 Friars. With 5:57 left in the first period, Anthony Greco scored to tie the game 1-1. With 2:33 left in the first period, Brian Pinho scored his first goal of the season to make it 2-1 Providence. Jon Gillies and Christian Frey match zeros for the remainder of the period so Providence takes a 2-1 lead into the second period. With 13:12 left in the second period, Anthony Greco scored his second goal of the game to tie the game 2-2. With 1:21 left in the second period, Trevor Mingoia scored his first goal of the season to make it 3-2 Friars. Gillies and Frey match zeros for the remainder of the period so Providence heads to the second intermission dressing room up 3-2. With 16:45 left in the third period, Tanner Fritz scored on the power play to tie the game 3-3. With 11:42 left in the third period, Tom Parisi scored his first goal of the season to make it 4-3 Providence. With 7:50 left in the third period, Tanner Fritz scored on the power play, his second goal of the game to tie the game 4-4. Gillies and Frey match zeros for the remainder of regulation so we'll play extra hockey with a 4-4 tie in Columbus. With 4:32 left in overtime, Anthony Greco finishes off the hat trick to win the game 5-4 in favor of Ohio State. The Friars dropped to 0-1-0 on the young season.
