Prologue- Rose's PoV
I'm not very good at explaining things, so I'm just going to be blunt. My name is Rose Dannika, I have jet black hair, bright blue eyes and I... know things. I grew up reading Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, watching Charmed and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've always believed in magic and monsters, creatures and super powers. I was always one of those kids who wrote letters to Santa even when everyone told me he wasn't real. I always wished that I would turn out to be a Werewolf, or part Vampire, or even part of some prophecy that would save the world; I wanted to be like the people you read about in books, a Hero. What I do is a little different. I think I've always had my ability but the first time I noticed it was in 7th grade.
**Flashback**
I was in a mixed class (7th and 8th graders) and we had just gotten a new student, Benjamin McCabe. The first time I saw him, instead of seeing a 13 year old boy, I saw a young, growling wolf. It freaked me out but when I blinked I just saw a kid again. After paying attention, I noticed he was different, when I looked into his eyes, they were slanted, like an animals and he smelled like my friends pet dog. I told my friend Sarah about the weird feeling, but she said his eyes looked normal to her and that he smelled like Axe, not Fido. What she said made sense, and even though he still seemed awfully strange, I put it out of my mind. Until Sarah's birthday party, it was at the local pizza place and everyone was there. It was about 11:30 and everybody was dancing, I got knocked over and turned around to glare at... Ben. "Watch it Dog-boy!" I snapped at him, I don't know, he still reminded me of a wolf. Once I said it though, his eyes widened in shock, he grabbed my arm a pulled me off the dance floor.
"How do you know?" he asked, I couldn't tell if he was more angry or confused.
"K-know what?" I stammered out, I was confused, as far as I knew, I didn't know anything.
His eyes turned yellow and he glared, "What I am" he growled, squeezing my arm so hard it hurt. I shook him off and ran out the door behind us, I tried running down the hallway, but I tripped, and fell. Instead of getting back up curled into a ball and started to cry, I was 12 and scared. My breath caught in my throat when I heard footsteps coming up from behind me, but instead of pain I felt a comforting hand on my shoulders.
I looked up just as Ben sat down next to me, looking sorry. "Look, I'm not going to hurt you, I promise, I just want to know how it is you know that I'm a wolf" He looked confused again, as if he was trying to figure out an extremely difficult word search.
"Is that what you are?" I asked, wiping my tears away, "a Werewolf?" I should have been more freaked out; after all, according to everyone else, Werewolves don't exist. But like I said, I'd always hoped they were real.
Ben helped me up and we went to sit on a bench against the wall, "I thought you knew" he said.
"Well, um, kinda" I tried to explain "the first time I saw you, I saw a wolf instead, and then there's your eyes, and no offense, but you smell like a dog" he chuckled at this, making me smile a little "I don't know, you just feel different" I finished.
He looked thoughtful, "Humans can't see the eyes, or smell, and I don't know how you saw my wolf, was it dark brown with white paws?" I nodded "then, yes that was mine. It's weird; because you're differently human" at my confused look he explained "different species smell different." He took a deep breath "Here, let me explain everything".
**End of Flashback**
That had been six years ago, Ben (or as I liked to call him Benji) had told me a lot of things. Werewolves existed all over the world, mostly in Africa, were they had originated, but a lot were in the U.S.A to. Some lived in packs, some alone, some were perfectly nice, some horribly savage. Silver bullets would kill them, but so would any lead one, they were a lot stronger, but could still get hurt. Benji also told me about Vampires. Contrary to popular belief, Werewolves and Vampires weren't mortal enemies, true, they were very different and weren't always best friends, but in general, they could get along as well as anybody else. Vampires also lived just about everywhere, mostly in Europe. They drank animal and human blood, depending on the vamp, and they didn't have to kill the person to drink, just leave enough blood in the system so they could heal. Then there were witches, also not human, so I wasn't one, but no one really knew too much about them, they kept to themselves and were, for the most part, peaceful.
I was 18 now and it seemed my...sight, has grown, I can still tell when someone isn't human (I've meet a pack of werewolves, several rouges, 3 or 4 vamps and a water witch in New Orleans), and I can tell much faster now, but, if a pay attention, I can also tell how people feel, like if someone had a crush on me or my friends, I would know.
My parents run a huge hotel chain and even though I'm pretty sure they love me, are never around, I'm pretty well of and because of them, I can live anywhere in the country in one of the hotels. Benji was still one of my best friends, the other is a vampire named Florence that I met in Michigan about 3 years ago, he is forever 18 and when we met I was only 15, but we got along fine. Since Flore and I had recently been run out of Rhode Island (He had pissed off a Fire elemental) we were moving to L.A were Benji already lived to finish our (well my) senor year in high school.
Well, here's a new story, I've wanted to write this for a while now so I hope you all like it! Please comment, vote and if you really love me FAN! ~
