"I'm so-" I start to apologize before I realize who I'm standing in front of.
"Well Hello Zelda, long time, no see," he speaks, a smug grin plastered on his face. A bundle of medical tape covers his broken nose, which makes his face look more disgusting then it already does. Dylan and Daniel stand behind him in their usual formation, both glaring at me, especially Daniel, his arm covered in a cast.
"Whatever you want, I don't have time for." I try to shove past him, but he steps in front of me, not allowing me to pass.
"Uh uh uh," he waves his finger side to side. "You aren't going anywhere yet." I blow air out of my nose angrily like a bull, infuriated by him.
"Fine, what do you want?"
"Well, you know the usual, but it's another thing. I've wanted to ask you a question." He pauses for a moment before speaking again. "Do you feel safe?" His question caught me off guard.
"What do you mean?" My voice cracks with a bit of fear.
"Because if you do, it won't last long." His eyes turn dark and cold and a shiver runs through my body. He then pushes past me leaving me in the hall alone. I then start to hurry to my next class, my hands shaking. For an idiot, he's pretty intimidating.
He's probably bluffing. He's always bluffed. Everything is ok.
The bell rings and I realized I was late, again. I growl in frustration. Better not be too late or my teacher will have my head.
**
I arrive home from school at three o'clock on the dot. I enter my home and yell out to see if anyone was present.
"I'm here," I hear my dad in the living room. I walk towards his voice, then seeing him with the TV on and his face buried in the newspaper.
"Where's mom?" His face rises from the paper and looks at me. His blue eyes were identical to mine, that same deep blue that almost went right to your soul if you looked into them. I've gotten my looks from my dad. The black hair, the eyes, the petite nose, I'm almost a feminine version of him.
"Oh she's upstairs getting ready. We're going out for dinner."
"Like a date?"
"Yea, a date." He huffs out.
"Aw dad! That's really nice, I don't remember the last time you and mom had one." I smile widely. A smile tugs at his lips as well. "Oh by the way, my partner is coming over for English since we have to do a project." I inform him. He looks up from his paper again, giving me a suspicious look.
"Who is it?"
"Oh his name is Corey."
"So it's a boy?" I scoff and chuckle at his response.
"Dad, you really think he's going to pull a move on me?" He shifts uncomfortably in his chair, not wanting to answer my question. "It'll be ok dad, he's really shy, he won't do anything, I promise you."
"If you say so, I don't want you bringing home another Chad-"
"Ugh, don't remind me." I interrupt him, bile rising in my throat. I don't even want to think about that kid. I look at the clock on my phone, reading 3:34pm.
"Hey dad, I'm going to go pick up Corey now." I tell him as i walk out of the room, grabbing my keys from the counter.
"Alright, don't be surprised if we're still here, your mother takes forever to get ready." He whispers the last part jokingly. I chuckle along with him. I then walk out the front door, bundled up to keep from shivering in the January cold. I start the car after getting into it and begin to drive to Corey's house.
