The weak wind whispers,
The water screams sublime,
His feet shift, teeter totter,
Deep breath, stand back its time.
The renowned African elegy : we are the creatures that God created to taste the bitter fruit of time," reverberated in his head thus brewing an abysmal whirlwind full of paradoxical baffling queries. He wished the earth would just expunge his body and soul from his existence but such a happening could be termed as incredulous. Micah now approaching the apex of his teenage years had yet to discover himself or what his purpose was in life. Though, he did not succumb to peer pressure from his so called mates that would lead him to unacceptable yet quotidian misdemeanors. In simple words, Micah was waiting for the knock instead of building the door himself.
In his case, Micah could point out almost everything that was not going well in his life. His parents, let their empirical hitches get in the way of the up keep of their only child. A pain in the neck for Micah. Due to these hitches, Micah's dad sympathized with himself with intoxicated drink; this would lead to him disappearing for a few days or so. Like the messiah, he had his own convectional ways and was never present throughout the pinnacles and valleys of his adolescent years. This had an impact on Micah as it would to any other boy,"A father is neither an anchor to hold us back nor a sail to lock horns with him." It was very sporadic for any of their battles to diminish without bruises or tears being instigated by - Micah's mom being the victim.
It was tradition for Micah and his friend- Talia to catch up on their lives once in a while near the forest the landscape's pulchritude was immense. Talia's life situation was similar to Micah's; she was made a figure of jest in the class for her accent; she was from abroad and came to Dillon because her father -her one and only parent since her mother left the land to the abyss of no return had been transfered to study the way of life there .Of course this riled her to the brim but she got used to it and learn the subtle art of not giving a damn . Though she met Micah who understood her and from then on a covalent bond of trust was formed. and grew to a strong friendship...or whatever that was. Just like Romeo and Juliet.
The last primrose yellow rays of the sinking sun were retiring behind a set of irregularly shaped cumulus clouds leaving a splendid coral pink shade in the horizon. Micah and Talia met, did their secret handshake and they conversed about how their lives were in decreptitude seemed overwhelming this on until a vague idea came into Micah's mind: "Micah, why don't we just take a sabbatical from our abysmal lives?"
"What do you mean?" remarked Talia.
I mean like what good is this town to us? ," he blurted out, " face it we are just unlucky here in Dillon,"continued Micah.
"You have a point "replied Talia,"though"where will we go and how?"
"Well.......... I literally have no idea but the thought of it 'kinda' brings me solace,"said Talia, "we can prove whoever said that ordeals can only be confronted wrong even though it's a coward's move."
"Seems like quite a stretch but i'll sleep over it and I will tell you what I think about this little idea of yours," said Micah.
The two did their somewhat secret handshake and plodded back to their abodes.
A wet wind blew announcing a surreptitious drenching; the rains came down with pestilential resolve. In his room was Micah Alexander; fretful thoughts holding him at the thrall of insommia ; yet that was the least of his problems. As it was every night in his house a WWE- esque fight between his parents. It had everything: the tension, the atmosphere, you name it. Maybe with an exception of the fans and supporters____ Micah was knee deep in contemplation to do that. Talia's words were like an epitaph of a tombstone they could not get out of his head and as the ' brawl' grew so did the idea of skipping town. In short, a bunch of ' what ifs' were reverberating in his head.
