Post apoctolyptic, that was most likely the only way to describe how the world felt and looked, though what had happened wasnt completely on the apocalypse side of things. What had happened did wipe out many people but as far as the Rulers were concerned it was no apocalypse.

Dee looked out from the balcony. The land was dull and gray in his eyes. Nothing stood out and everything blended together. It was dreary and depressing, but he grew to tolerate it.

The short man drew a sigh and turned back to the building. He was lonely in this place. barely anyone spoke to them nor' to themselves. Most people were too scared to.

Life wasn't terrible, but it wasnt ideal. Dee had a better life than people outside the court walls. yet he knew something wasnt right here.

"Dee! Dee!" Patton, a fellow employee, called out for me. Patton was an exception with the 'no talking' agenda everyone else seemed to hold. Dee didn't think he could keep his mouth shut if he tried.

"Ah, Patton, how may I be of service?" Dee clasped his hands together and mustered a half-hearted smile at the man before him.

"Have you heard? The kings are holding a banquet tonight!" Patton was bursting with pure excitement. "Oh, we should go! Please tell me you'll go!"

Dee thought for a moment "Well, I do suppose I have nothing better to do with my time."

Patton jumped up and down with joy. "Great! I'll pick you up from your room at 7, then we can walk there together!" Patton then walked off.

-------

It only took Dee 15 minutes or less to get dressed for the party. He wore a dusty yellow undershirt along with a jet black dress jacket. His hair was fitted nicely under his old fashioned bowler hat. He glanced at himself in the mirror before leaving his room.

Patton was waiting outside of his room beaming with excitement. Dee took a moment to observe what he chose to wear for the occasion. Patton had chose a dull blue undershirt, but went bold with a white dress jacket and pants. Dee smiled at him and held his arm out for Patton to take. Patton greeted Dee and took his generous offer with a smile then proceeded to gush about his day and his pure joy that the court decided to throw an event.

Dee had never really given it much thought, but know that he pondered on it he did realize court life was quite boring. The king's were reserved to themselves and that's how it had been since he had arrived. They were barely seen and there were no portraits of them in the halls. No one quite knew why. Dee just assumed it was to avoid as many assassination attempts as possible. As far as he knew they could be two old men on their death beds.

One thing was known about the king's; they were brothers. No other information has ever been given about them and as far as Dee knew it would stay that way for many years to come.

"-But Mrs. Berkeley offered me buiscuits this morning, so of course I couldn't decline!-" Dee hadn't realized he had zoned out. He smiled softly at Patton as he kept on. "-I mean she's sweet as a button, but her buiscuits definitely aren't the best. Oh! Don't tell her I said that she's be devastated! Oh gosh, I'm sorry."

"No need to apologise Patton. We All slip up sometimes." Dee looked up at him for a moment then back to the long corridor.

"What do you think the banquet will be like?" Patton's voice went soft. He was anxious, Dee could tell.

"I don't know. Probably grand and elegant, but it could also be drab and boring." Dee was trying his best not to be his normal sarcastic self. He wanted Patton to see he was a nice person, mostly because Patton was a cinnoman roll in Dee's eyes.

"Well I guess we'll see." Patton nodded toward the door leading to the main gardens.

Dee pulled in a breath and held it. He slowly opened the door.
