The sunlight greeted the stone bricks of the castle every morning replacing the evil veil the night cast upon it, just as it did every morning I arrived, the castle was decorated with the beauty most people longed for their houses to look like, but what could you expect from royalty other than superficial beauty,
But the beauty wasn't held inside the stone brick but outside it, in the fields were two children, Dahlia and Felix, aimlessly running about and playing a number of games before they tired out and then lay in the green meadow as they did practically everyday whilst I watch them,
"Dahlia, Felix!" I yelled across the field, their heads perked up, I beckond them and they came running, "What's up mum?", Dahlia asked me a smile up in her face,
"Felix has to get ready for a dinner soon and-" "I don't want to!", he fussed with his arms crossed firmly across his chest, I bent down and look him in his honey brown eyes, "You may not want to Felix but you have to, and if you do it and are on your very best behaviour then I'll give you a little gift tomorrow", his eyes lit up and his grumpy expression changed to a happy one, he jumped up and down before leaping onto me and wrapping his arms around me,
"Love you Amari"
"I love you too Felix"
"What about me?" Dahlia begged now tugging on the skirt of my dress, "You know I love you sweetheart" I said ruffling her thick, black curls that fell past her shoulders, I planted a small kiss on her forehead and I placed my hands on both their shoulders smiling.
I was too caught up in the moment to realize Queen Karmen, stood by the door way, her smile warm and inviting but her crystal blue eyes had failed to replicate the feeling of her smile,
"Amari a word?"
Her voice was warm, the kind of warm that had a hint of cold, the kind of warm that sent shivers down your spine and made you curl your toes, the kind that was fake,
The two children went inside with grins on their faces, leaving me outside with the Queen, her blonde hair and peach complexion in the ending glimpses of sunlight seemed even more perfect, putting my dark skin and black locs to shame,
"You wished to speak with me your highness?", "Yes I did, I know how you care for young Felix, which only makes it harder to believe you would do this to him, to us", "I'm sorry what has happened I'm confus-", "You know exactly what you did!",her expression finally match her eyes,
cold and dead
"Your highness I promise you-", "The promise of a thief is worthless", "Thief?, I am not a thief!", I gasped in shock at her accusation, "Ah, so you're a liar aswell" "Ma'am I swear to you I did no such thing", "Don't lie to me!",
silence.
I had no words left, no solution, no possible way of convincing her of my innocence, I felt stuck, unable to process anything around me, frozen in fear,
"Arami, I know that Felix has grown fond of you and because of that I've allowed you to spend this day with him, but you are now fired, you'll be paid for 2 weeks and I wish to never see yourself in my castle", "I swear that I haven't done it-", "Hush now, you're lucky I'm paying you at all!",
Her boney, thin finger pointed at the door whilst she glared at me, shooting daggers with her icy orbs,
Reluctantly I dragged my feet against the ground going towards Dahlia, with tears in my eyes I knelt down to meet her eye level,
"Hey sweetie we need to go now", her face was confused, "Can I say goodbye to Felix?", I looked back at the queen who continued to glare at me, "I don't think we can..", my voice breaking off into a whisper, her little fingers placed themselves into my hand,
Felix rushed into the room, he was dressed up in his little suit, "You look very handsome Felix", I said trying to hide the fact I was close to tears, "Amari can you do the bowtie?", He stuck his hands out, I walked over,
"You know one day you're going to have to learn how to do it yourself, I won't always be here", "Yes you will you'd never leave me", his little voice so sure and confident, "Remember that I love you and that no matter what I'm proud of you", I finished off his bow tie, "Goodbye Felix, be good", tears had begun the slowly stream down my face,
Dahlia rushed forward and hugged Felix, their little bodies squeezing each other, like they were giving all the love they had to each other,
"Amari"
Her cold voice reminding me that this was the last time I'd see him, that Dahlia would see him, "Let them say goodbye", I said, I turned to face her "allow them to say goodbye", I felt my voice replicate her coldness, she nodded her head,
"Felix, don't forget me", she said her little voice trembling because she knew, deep down she could sense it and he could too, "I could never Dahlia", they looked at each other absorbing everything about each other,
"That's enough now, Felix come with me", Karmen grabbed Felix's arm dragged him behind her like a rag doll but his eyes never left mine or Dahlia's.
