I glance at my alarm clock. 1:00 AM
"Janet, are you sure you want to do this? Mom will be devastated. Please don't do this."
Rolling my eyes, I turn to face my twin sister, who is standing in my bedroom doorway."
"Let me tell you something, Cat. I could care less about how mom would feel. I'm done with this nowheresville, Illinois. I'm done with the small-town mentality, I'm headed to Chicago to make a life for myself."
"Well," Catherine sighed, "if you're committed to this, the least I can do as a sister is help you. Is there anything you're missing? Do you have everything?"
I thought about this for a moment. Is anything missing?
"I guess not-wait! My phone!" I dashed over to my nightstand and grabbed it. The Nokia 3310 had seen better days. I unplugged the charger from the wall and put it in my bulging backpack. Satisfied, I turned to leave the house one last time. My sister stood in my way.
"Janet. Amelia Janet Scott. I'm begging you, please don't do this! If not for mom, then at least for me," she pleaded, obviously on the verge of tears. I brushed the hair out of her face.
"No matter what, I won't forget you. I love you."
