The light, delicate touch of the morning sun rays crept through the hanging blinds of a dirty, apartment window. Lighting up the whole room in all of it's messy and pungent glory. The white bedsheets lazily covering Laurence Harper, as he slowly sat himself up and stretched, letting out a soft groan. His gaze drifted over to the window, and outside into the city. And slowly, a smile rose upon his face.
This smile quickly changed, however, into shocked disbelief. When he looked down beside him, only to see a naked woman of about 30 years of age, sleeping beside him. He rubbed his forehead in attempts to remember, who this woman is. And how she ended up, here. All he could remember was alcohol. A lot, of alcohol.
He sneakily, yet clumsily, slithered out of his bed. Scratching his scalp in the confusion of what to do. He decided to just get dressed, and get to work. And with that, he quickly darted to the bathroom to brush his teeth. He then picked up some hair wax and placed a decent splotch in his hands, rubbed them together, and fed them through his short, scruffy, dirt-blonde hair. Allowing for the longer fringe to stick up and slightly forward at the front of his head. He went back into his bedroom and picked up the nearest white shirt to him. He smelt it to check if it was wearable or not, he was repelled slightly by the odour but had no time to find an alternative option, so then quickly put it over his slim yet muscular physique. He pulled up some navy blue denim jeans over his legs and hastily wrapped a black leather belt around his waist. He then followed with socks and black and white converse shoes and finished with his scarlet red hoodie, his gun holster, and black leather jacket over the top. He then went to grab his keys, detective badge, phone and gun but dropped knocked a box off of a 3ft maroon table.
"Shit.." he murmured, with his reasonably deep voice.
The woman sat up and rubbed her eyes. Her jet-black, wavy hair fell past her shoulders. And then she opened her eyes and looked at Laurence. His deep, auburn eyes met the gaze of her amber-orange eyes.
'Ah, so I pulled another demon' He thought to himself.
"Whatcha doin' you hunk?" She said in a light, seducing tone.
"Errr, work. I-I gotta go to, work. But hey, it was lovely meeting you, Julian-"
"My name is Mila!" She exclaimed as her face switched to disgust.
"Right, Rachel, I gotta go. But I'll leave the door unlocked for you to leave. There's a key under the doormat, feel free to snack on whatever you can find in the fridge." He swiftly exited and put his gun in his holster, his keys in his left pocket, his phone in his right, and his badge around his neck. He ran down the four flights of stairs, and out the front doors of his apartment block. He breathed in through his nose, and started heading to the precinct.
~~~
The front doors swung open as Laurence entered, he then walked up the stairs to the second floor and waltzed into the main room saying:
"Good Morning all. Let's crack some cases!" He had a huge grin on his face, it was clear that he loved his job.
A 5'7", Caucasian male strolled up to him. He was surprisingly bulky for his height, and was bald, with the only hair on his face being a jet-black goatee and bushy eyebrows. He too had amber-orange eyes. He wore long brown trousers and black shoes. With a blue, stripy shirt tucked into his trousers.
"Good Morning partner," The man smiled and said in a cheerful tone "How was last night?"
"Kaiko! Man, let me tell you. I pulled." He laughed to himself and nudged Kaiko, who joined in with the boyish laughter
"Very nice, what was her name?" He questioned casually as if this were a usual occurrence, which it was in all fairness.
"Mila. And, not to toot my own horn, but she was also a demon." He chuckled to himself with pride.
"That's the fourth one this week!"
"I know!!"
They started walking over to their individual desks still laughing, then sat down and collected themselves for work.
"Detective Harper, you are late." A deep, booming voice came from the doorway of the Captain's office. And there stood, was the Captain. He was tall, around 6'3", and had a neatly combed head of white hair, with a thick, strong jaw and deep blue eyes. He always stood upright, and always hand his hands in his pockets. It was his way of seeming casual and more approachable, despite being a mountain of a man with a monstrously deep voice.
"Sorry Captain, I had some setbacks this morning." Laurence had already used that excuse far too many times, but it always worked.
"Well, I'm assigning you and your partner, Detective Jones, a new case."
"Oh? What do you have for us today, Captain?" Questioned Kaiko curiously.
"A triple homicide. A family went hiking up a trail in the mountains. That was a week ago, and they never returned. So the Ranger's squad went to go look for them. They found the tent, and not too far from it, the corpses of three of the four family members. I want you two to go down there, and check it out." He passed over the file to Kaiko, who immediately opened it and started reading.
Laurence scooted his chair over to Kaiko's desk.
"The Channing family. The father, mother and their two daughters went hiking, then a few days later, the body of the father, the mother and the eldest daughter was found." Kaiko read.
"So, it must've been the youngest right? She killed her family." Laurence stated
"Most certainly seems that way. Let's head over and have a look ourselves."
Laurence nodded. They both stood up and exited the precinct, hopped into Kaiko's Car, and drove off.
