persephone

You cry out for me
Mother,
Saying how I was stolen,
Snatched,
Seized,
From my own home.

(You only think I am weak)

Oh, how wrong could you be.

I wanted it,
The darkness,
The death,
The deep longing.

(Hell has always been sweet. You just feared it.)

You know who my father is.
The king of the gods
Zeus.
He never once stopped
In remorse of his actions.

(I am his daughter in more ways than one. If he never had to stop, why should I?)

You chained me carefully to your home
Like I was Prometheus.
If I am to be Prometheus, you must understand mother
That you are the eagle.

(Do you regret your choices now, Mother?)

You hid me from power,
Slaughter
And sadness.
And as a result, life itself.

(Maybe that's why I am now a vicious ruler)

I wasn't kidnapped by Hades.
I willingly ate those seeds.
I picked the pomegranate myself
And smiled as the fruit stained my lips
Blood red.

(There's a hidden beauty in death)

I was Kore, the maiden.
I am now Persephone, the Destroyer.
You may fear me mother,
For I have always been half goddess
Half hell.

(Mortals quiver before the sight of me as they should. I am their queen and ultimatum. Hades could never be so unforgiving alone)

It's a shame it took you this long to see my true power.

(Are you afraid of me now you know who I truly am, mother? Do you see me as the monster you called Hades?)
