Experiment 106 : Project Vel

Chapter 1

"Experiment 106, result: Functional"

"Finally after years of failure, my experiment is a success! Welcome, Vel,"a crazed voice was heard as the experiment's eyes shut close once again, falling unconscious. The scientist smirked at his spectacular discovery. "Analyst 137, prepare operation M.E for testing", the analyst gave a quick nod as he walked to a panel about ten feet away from the test tubes. About ten seconds later Analyst 137 reported to the scientist, "everything is ready sir", the scientist responded with his gaze never leaving the occupied test tube," Excellent, commence the operation". Suddenly liquid was injected into the occupied test tube and it began to glow brightly until the experiment was no longer visible. The scientist gave a maniacal smirk, "Experiment 106: Project Vel, is now in session".

The calm summer breeze whistled in Vel's ears as he lay down on the lush green grass, soaking up as much sunlight as possible since good weather is very rare in the area for which he resides in. Vel has only lived here for a couple of months, he has no recollection on where he's from, if he has any family or friends, or any childhood memories he may have had, all he knew was his name and age, but everything else is fuzzy. Most days Vel simply relaxes on the grass outside of his small cottage beside the forest. It's a simple cottage consisting of stone walls and a wooden roof, to most people it seemed like it would collapse during any weather conditions, however looks can be deceiving. The cottage was completely sturdy and has withstood even the harshest of weather. It wasn't much but to Vel it was home.

As Vel lay down on the grass, he had shut his eyes to help relax better. Suddenly he noticed something shielded the sun from his face. When he opened his eyes he was met with a pair of azure eyes staring back at him. At first he simple stared the pair of eyes in front of him, mesmerized by the colour, until something clicked inside of his brain and he jumped about two feet from where he was originally, whacking his forehead of the azures in the process. "Oww," the azure complained, "you sure do have a slow reaction time, don't ya?" the azure giggled, when Vel slowly looked up realising that the mesmerizing eyes belonged to a girl with chocolate brown hair and quite a petite body. She had fair skin and freckles lightly dashed across her cheeks. She wore a long sleeved top with horizontal black and white stripes along with a pair of denim dungaree shorts. Finally she wore a pair of black sneakers with white soles on her feet to top it off. Vel gave a nervous chuckle in response to her comment, this was his first time actually talking to a girl, so saying he was nervous was an understatement. However, he kept a calm composure and asked her, "why were you staring at me while I was asleep?", the girl blushed at the question making Vel stifle a laugh at her flusteration. "Um.., well, you see, I", the girl stuttered, "Um, I'm actually new to town, I moved into the cottage just the other side of those trees", she pointed to the small group of trees at the side of Vel's cottage, "I decided to go for a walk to get accustomed to the area and well, I saw you lying down in the grass so I thought, I'd come over and say hello, but then I noticed you were asleep so I thought I'd wait until you woke up,"she muttered as she finished her explanation, completely avoiding all eye contact. "So, you decided to wait by staring at me sleeping? Maybe I should make sure my doors are locked at night now since you're gonna be living beside me," Vel joked as he gave her a sly look, this made the girl blush even more than she had before, "I....WHAT!? NO!? Can we just drop the whole watching you sleep thing all together?" the girl yelled as Vel walked closer to her since he was still at least two feet away from where he was before she appeared, he sat down in front of her and extended his arm as he laughed, "heh sure, by the way, my names Vel, what's yours?" 

The girl just stared at him blankly when she realised she had never said her name, her face went even redder, if that's even possible, from embarrassment, "Oh, right! Heh guess I forgot to introduce myself," she scratched the nape of her neck sheepishly, "my name's Echo, a pleasure to meet you Vel", she said as she extends her hand to meet Vel's and shook it. "The pleasure's all mine Echo, I hope we can become fast friends," Vel smiled at her. "Yeah me too," Echo smiled in response. "Just don't watch me sleep anymore okay? It's a bit unsettling," Vel joked, Echo lightly punched the side of his arm in response," hey! I'm sorry okay?! Can't you just let it go already?!" Echo pouted. "Nope, not happening!" Vel laughed Echo groaned since she knew it wasn't going away anytime soon. "Anyway", Vel began as he stood up, "would you like to come inside for some lemonade? It's scorching out here," Vel asked as he extended his arm out to help Echo up, "I would love to, it is very warm out today," she accepted as she grabbed Vel's arm and hoisted herself up. As they walked back to Vel's cottage, Echo felt the need to ask, "by the way Vel, how old are you?" Vel simply responded with, "22, you?" as he opened his door. Echo looked up at him and smiled, "21," Vel chuckled and joked, "are you sure? You look way too short to be 21," Echo looked at him offended, "HEY! I'm not short, I'm fun-sized," Vel stifled a laugh as he turned around to face her, "Oh really? What kind of fun would you be the right size for?" he said as he gave her a sly look. Echo's whole face practically exploded into a dark shade of red, "I, eh, uhhhh," she stuttered as she had no come back to that one. "I'm just messing with you, no need to get so nervous around me, we're friends right?"Vel said as he let out a chuckle. Echo let out a breath that she had no idea that she was holding, "yeah that's right, we are friends," she smiled at Vel and he smiled back as he thought, to think, this is how I make my first friend, quite a hysterical memory to have, his smile then dropped slightly, but went unnoticed by Echo, I just hope I don't forget this one.
