Chapter 36 - Dangerous Game

Start from the beginning

Signing, I look over at the wall clock and see I'm an hour over my usual leaving time. I was waiting for Harry so we could go on our date, but now that's not happening, I can leave now. Going back to an empty house at 6 in the evening knowing your boyfriend won't come along sucks. I hate going home to an empty house. At least little Haley will keep me company.

Packing my things away, I switch my office lights off and walk out the door. In the hallway, I look over to Harry's office doors hearing voices behind it. I hope they catch the person who is doing this real quick. I want my Harry time back.

The elevator ride down was quiet, and so was the lobby of the building. Most employees have already gone home. Walking out the glass doors, where Tony would usually greet me, I see Harry's driver already waiting for me.

"Miss Wilson," He greets, opening the back door for me to get in. I greet him back and make myself more comfortable in the backseat of Harry's Range Rover.

The car ride home wasn't that long. I thank Harry's driver, politely denied his request to walk me upstairs. I know Harry is worried about me living in this neighbourhood, but it's not that bad. This was the first place I could call my own.

Walking upstairs in the apartment building to my door, I couldn't help but let my thoughts wander. I hope Harry is doing okay, mentally. This is a big thing, and I know he feels utter useless not knowing who is doing this and why they are doing this. Of all the companies in the world, why did they choose Styles Inc.?

Coming towards my door, I get my keys out and unlock the door. I need that warm bath to soothe my aching muscles. Still, in my thoughts, I close and lock the door behind me. Just as I turn around, I step in a big puddle of broken glass. With furrowed brows, I look down and see one of my vases broken on the floor. Looking up for the first time since I got home, I saw my whole living room was trashed.

With my heart beating in my chest, I walk around the broken glass and move further into my home. My whole living room was trashed, couches were thrown over, my television lying broken on the floor, more broken glass from ornaments, picture frames and vases. I look over towards my kitchen area which was also trashed.

Have I just been robbed?

Getting my cellphone out of my pocket, I went to call the police and Harry, when I heard something down the hall in my bedroom. I wanted to go check, but I was too scared. I knew the intruder was still here.

Trying to be as quiet as possible, I walk towards the front door again keeping my eyes on the hall that leads towards my bedroom. But as everything was carelessly thrown around my house, I bumped into a table that wasn't there before, sending another vase flying towards the floor. I gasped at the sound of the vase breaking, darting my teary eyes towards my bedroom. And then I saw it, a figure dressed in all black, coming out of my bedroom door.

I tried to run towards my front door, but I stupidly locked the door on my way in. Looking for the keys, I saw it on the table I bumped into, with my handbag, where I must have placed it when I was in my shocked state. My eyes travelled upwards and were met with the intruder standing right next to the keys I need.

This was over, I wasn't going to get out of here.

"No!" I scream as the intruder quickly came over to me. "Please!" I tried to hold onto the door as he came closer, but he was much stronger than me. With one swift movement, I was thrown roughly to the other side of the room, away from the door. I look up at the intruder from my place on the floor, seeing him coming closer towards me again.

"No, please! I'll give you anything you want. Money, cellphone, name it." I try to reason as I stand up to run away again. But again, he was much faster than me. He picked me up and pulled me against his chest. My heart was pounding so hard I could hear it in my ears. My hands were shaking and sweaty, and my breath came out in big puffs.

"Please don't hurt me," I say quietly as tears fall down my cheeks. This is not how I imagined my night to turn out. My words must've angered him more because before I know it I was thrown to the floor again. My body was weak from being thrown twice now, I try to look back at the intruder with tear-filled eyes.

I saw him in the kitchen, busy in one of the drawers, and I knew what he was looking for... A knife. Fearing for my life, I put all my strength together and pick myself up from the floor. I run to get the keys and then run towards the door. With shaky hands, I try to put the key in the keyhole, but again my wrist was captured in the gloved hand of the intruder. Forcefully he grabbed the keys out of hand and threw it across the room.

I look at him with fearful eyes, then he slapped me across the face which sent me flying towards the floor again. Holding onto my throbbing cheek, tears fell down my face. Not wanting to look back up at him, to afraid what he'll do next, I feel an impact come towards my stomach making me scream out in pain.

This was it, I'm dying today. How come none of my neighbours is hearing the commotion?

"Please." I cried out, clutching my stomach where he just kicked me.

"Tik tok." He made me look up at him at the sound of his voice. Before I could say anything or process his words, his fist came down hitting me straight on my nose. I couldn't even let a cry out of pain when another blow came towards my jaw. And before I knew it, I was surrounded by darkness.

"Play with fire. It's a dangerous game."
