Scientists scrambled around the large laboratory setting up everything for next weeks events.
Janitors were coming in and out cleaning up chemical spills and blood stains. As well as past 'contestants'.
Things were extremely hectic.
The president walked into the laboratory, motioning for the head supervisor to come over.
"What can I do for you?" Asked the supervisor
"How are things coming?"
"Good. We are almost ready for the next batch."
"Splendid news!" The president said clasping his hands together, smiling. "I don't mean to intrude ma'am, but are we anywhere close to success?"
"Yes actually. We have gone through almost every variable there could be. We have narrowed it down to just one. We plan to send all the subjects this time instead of testing just one."
"That's good! I will be expecting results in a little over a month then."
"Yes sir." The supervisor said nodding his head to the guards. Who escorted the president out.
The supervisor turned back to the, now staring, janitorial crew. "Get back to work!" The supervisor yelled.
Everyone was extremely excited, these days were where we all got to meet the subjects. Most being unbearable teenagers, but some being cute kids.
It saddens everyone to have to put kids through this it's for the better of the human race.
Kids don't have anything to live for anyways, they're just kids.

A week later
No one was excited.
Every family dreaded having to put their child's number in the drawing.
Every family hated having to wait, every second making them more anxious as the government draws numbers ever so slowly.
Carefully picking each carefully folded care and reading out the numbers. It was all for fun to them.
But as a card was pulled, something intrigued them. The card was labeled with a shorter number, only 7 digits long. While a normal number these days was 12 digits long. After scanning the number, a profile came up with a picture of a young women in her early 20s. Strange that people specifically went through each card to make sure these sorts of things didn't happen.
It was strange to get someone older than 16 but even stranger that her number was so short.
The scientists didn't think much and thought of her as a new chance. Maybe that was exactly what they needed, someone older.
They read her number to the audiences watching at home, 4736251.
Unlike most people, this young women was overjoyed. As this was intended to happen.
As the young women walked through the corridor, she knew what had happened was no mistake. She believed she had a chance. A shot at writing a wrong.
Before she was takin to the back room of the laboratory, she had a vivid vision. Seven other kids like herself, all scattered and difunctional.
She knew that there was a chance, if everyone found each other it could happen.
The escorts walking with her opens large doors to a room similar to a office. They changed her into a hospital gown and forced her down onto an operating table. She panicked and flayed but she was quickly restrained with straps.
They put a mask over her and told her everything was going to be alright.
Bullshit.
