You have opened this guide because the lifestyle of a dark academic intrigues you. You feel a sense of belonging or admiration every time you immerse yourself with dark academic topics.
You may be transitioning to this lifestyle, or already living it. Nevertheless, you have clicked on this guide looking for tips on how to live and feel like a dark academic aestheticist. Let’s begin with who a dark academic is, exactly.
It is useful to know there are different types of dark academics:
The classic dark academic:
Whose hobbies consist of reading, visiting museums, writing (especially poetry). They have a fascination with different languages, enjoys watching documentaries, thrifts and most importantly, drinks coffee.
The nature-inspired dark academic:
Is a house plant maniac, their diary consists of pressed plants, is probably a cat lover and vegan, loves tea and studies biology with a passion.
The musical dark academic:
Always has their earphones with them, loves music concerts, does schoolwork with music on, plays either the piano or violin, at least.
The romantic academic:
Writes romantic poetry, wears cozy sweaters and pleated skirts, slow dances to old music, curls up with warm cups of tea and a book.
The scholarly academic:
Writes impeccable notes in class, owns leather bound bags crammed with textbooks and pens, depends on coffee, has a wide sophisticated vocabulary (that people constantly comment on) and literally lives in the library.
The theatre academic:
Loves Shakespeare, all the time, attends school plays, acts, memorises lines in the stage wings, takes on their acting character’s traits, even outside the theatre.

Now that you are familiar with the different types of dark academics, you may choose to identify to whichever one you feel most connected to, or multiple ones.
Under the sophisticated and timeless appearance of the dark academic, there is a critically thinking and genius mind.
Before moving on to the 'outer elements', as I like to call them (clothing, hair, make up etc), we must know the 'inner elements' (topics of interest and hobbies) the dark academic possesses.
