Chapter Two - "The Field Trip"

*(Y/N)'s POV*

That Friday...

Well, Friday's here.
I haven't talked to Ran since Monday. She's a slippery girl.

I talk to Moca-chan, though.
When I bring up Ran, she usually blows it off.
Oh, Moca-chan...

Today, in class, Ran showed up. I guess she's really serious about the trip. Good!

I turned around to look at her.
She didn't even pay attention to me, she was messing with her notebook again.

Wonder what she writes in it?

"Okay, class. Quick roll call before we head off," the teacher said.

"(L/N) (Y/N)," she said.

"Here!" I  said, hesitating. I'm not used to having my name being called like that...

"Aoba Moca?"

"Here, ma'am. Hungry and ready."

"Udagawa Tomoe?"

"Here," Tomoe shouted loudly.

"Okay, Uehara Himari?"

"I'm here!"

"Hazawa Tsugumi?"

"Hi-- I mean, present!"

"Mitake Ran?"

"...Here," Ran said, quietly.

"That's surprising..." I heard the teacher say.

She went through a few more names.
"All right, that seems to be it. Now class, head over to the school buses in front of the school."

The class exited the room, and I walked near Ran.
She stayed quiet. She really is very quiet.
I wish there was a way to make her speak...

We all entered the school buses, and I managed to sit next to Ran.
She got the window seat, lucky her.

She just looked out the window and didn't speak.

I tried speaking to her, and to my surprise, she responded...
...by nodding her head quietly.

Then she took out her notebook again and began writing in it.

If I don't ask, I'll look weird again.
But I know for a fact that she's gonna ignore me.

"Hey, that's a cool notebook!" I said.

I looked at the notebook.
It was all black, and tattered.

"Ran's Note" was scrawled on the cover, with "Ran" having flowers near it. Maybe she likes flowers?

"It-it's nothing," Ran said.

Sigh...

Suddenly, I saw someone turn around in front of me.
It was Moca-chan.

She mouthed some words, but I couldn't understand.
She got a bit frustrated, and decided to turn around again.

Then she texted me. I forgot I had her number.

"(Y/N), Ran's been acting like that all week"

Wow, something must really be bothering her, if she's like that to her best friends in Afterglow.

"Maybe good old Moca-chan can help you out" she texted again.

"We'll see, Moca-chan" I replied.
