I was covered in bruises, cuts, and various other minor flesh wounds. I could barely get to my feet as blood would continue to seep from each individual cut and scratch. All I could see was an empty forest crawling with death and despair in the dead of night. I was just barely able to get away from the beast that wounded me until I suddenly felt a sharp pain in my abdomen, causing me to lean onto a tree for support. I could observe only what I could only describe as a deep cut across my stomach from the far right to the middle with only the light of the moon. My eyes widened and my breath shaken. I decided to feel the ground behind me without making too much noise, groans, hisses, etc., from the aforementioned abdominal cut. And what I felt was something liquid, so I held it in the light of the moon for confirmation. It was blood, my blood. My skin paled and my heart dropped and beat even faster as I began to internally panic. And just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I heard the sound that made my skin crawl, a nearby growl, and a dark, terrifying, and overpowering presence. I only had one thought racing through my head. Run.
I picked myself up off the tree and ran as fast as I could with the sound of the beast trailing behind me. Each step, I grunted with a slight limp as I tried to escape what tried to catch me. After a few minutes of running, I was able to make out a low hanging branch ahead of me. So I ran towards that branch, pushed away, and when I was past it, let it go. What I heard was a smack of a branch and a yelp that soon transitioned into a much deeper and threatening growl. I was able to get enough of a lead to at least buy me some more time, albeit a small amount of time, but I'll take what I can get. As I ran, I noticed that I wasn't feeling the cuts as much as I did earlier. I suppose it was the adrenaline rush that blocked out the pain. But soon after, it wasn't long until I started to feel that piercing cut on my chest and a few other scratches on my legs once more. The air in my lungs started to diminish past the point of exhaustion and breathlessness, but I continued to persist. I ran as fast and hard as I possibly could, but I could feel myself slowing down. My pace slowed and the beast's footsteps loudened, closing the gap.
It wasn't long until I couldn't run anymore, and started slowing down to a deathly slow as my heart pounded against my chest like a drum and legs that felt like crumbling where they stood. I knew it was going to catch me, all I could do was brace for the impact as I heard it leap behind me. I leaped with all my capabilities to try and throw it off. What I felt next was a pair of jaws with teeth like knives biting into my lower left leg as I screamed in pain in pure agony. I turned on my back to try and kick it off with my other leg. My vision was blurry due to the exhaustion, so I couldn't get a clear image of the beast. But what I could see were two bright orange eyes with blurry red epicenters. I couldn't clearly see into them, but I knew it definitely saw into me. It's eyes were as sharp as the claws and teeth it bared, piercing into my very soul. But thanks to those eyes of pure terror, I was able to tell where it was and by where it bit me, so I kicked near my left leg as hard as possible. And much to my surprise, I hit it. But it had a harder grip on my leg than I thought, so in response, it jerked it's head to the side, snapping the bone. This caused me to scream in even further agony. So I kicked again and again and again until it let go of my leg before kicking it one last time, this time in the snout as indicated by another yelp. I knew I couldn't run, but I still had a powerful, burning instinct to survive. And when it leaped again, I felt a rush of power flood my body like a tidal wave, and then it all faded to white.......
