The time was around one in the morning. The two boys had been sleeping silently the room and everything seemed perfect. Until things happened... Because, in Will's mind, he was scared. The movie they had watched the night before was really starting to affect him. Flashbacks occurred, making him grip on to Mike even tighter. Sometimes he would move suddenly, causing Mike to pull him in a little closer. But after a few hours of that, Will woke up, sweating profusely and panicking. Mike shot up quickly after hearing the fast, short breaths. "Will? Are you okay?" He asked, placing a hand on his shoulder. Will nodded, the corners his eyes filling with tears. "Just a nightmare..." he whispered, a small droplet falling down his face.
They sat there in silence and the trees smashed together outside. Will jumped at the noise and shot forward towards Mike. "I've never seen you so jumpy... are you sure you don't wanna talk about it?" Mike said soothingly, sliding his arms around the shorter boy's torso. He nodded, sat up and moved back slightly. "I'd rather not..." He whispered, crying a little. He was shaking and Mike noticed. "Come here... you're okay..." Mike said opening up his arms once more in an attempt to comfort him. "I was just scared... please don't be mad..." he cried, pulling himself forward into Mike's embrace.
"I'm not mad at you..." he cooed. Will held onto him and buried his nose in Mike's shoulder. "Thank you..." he said drearily, closing his eyes and dragging the boy back down. "Gonna try go back to sleep?" He put a hand in his hair. Will nodded and snuggled up to him. "And remember, if it gets scary, I'm here okay?" He stroked his head. He nodded once more before falling into a peaceful slumber.
Many hours passed and at the Byers, El was pacing back and forth wondering were her ex-boyfriend and stepbrother were. "They're probably cuddling or something," Lucas laughed, Dustin joined in and both began making references. "Wait. What?" El was confused. The two looked at each other and chuckled again. "Okay, sit down. We'll tell you all about it," Eleven took a seat beside Lucas and nodded.
"Okay so, one time our school went on this trip. It was for two nights over one weekend." Lucas gave the nod of approval to Dustin. "We all got a cabin, four boys in each, so there were me, Lucas, Mike and Will. There were also bunks and very little space." El sat silently before gesturing you carry on. "Well," Lucas continued, "The day had gone by and it was time to rest, so we all got into bed and went to sleep." Eleven nodded before speaking. "Right? What's so unusual about that?" Dustin held back his laughter. "W-well, Lucas got up for a drink of water later on in the night and..." He looked at Lucas. "Will wasn't in his bed. So I was kinda confused, I woke Dustin and we were about to wake Mike when..." El sat waiting. "Will was all snuggled up next to Mike, under his arms and everything." Dustin rolled off of his chair.
"Wait? Did Mike let him?" El asked, confused. "Yeah. He probably did, they've been like that forever, could never get enough of each other." Lucas added. Dustin spoke up once more. "Also! Once we had a sleepover and it happened again, they were so cute, cuddled up. You should've seen them!" He finished, glancing at the girl. "So Mike loves Will?" She asked. Dustin nodded and almost squealed. Lucas joining in.
"They always used to stay over together, usually after our dungeons and dragons nights... those things lasted over ten hours. We would go home whilst Will slept here. He used to draw pictures for Mike all of the time!" The boy laughed, remembering the good times. "I've drawn him pictures too..." She added. "Why did he never have those on his wall, I was his girlfriend!" El shouted out. "Yeah! And," Dustin had ignored the girl. "Remember, they were gonna get married in kindergarten, after a week of knowing each other, they were already madly in love." El looked up, confused. She didn't understand why either of them wanted to marry a boy, she didn't know people could do that. She thought Mike would have wanted her forever.
She looked to the ground before standing up, a face of hurt most likely. "Do you think I talk to Will when he gets home... and Mike too... separately... and alone please?" She didn't face them. Dustin sighed, he knew that they went to get ice cream or ride their bikes when they were together. "They'll probably get home at like four, it's only ten, they do go out in the day El." She stormed off, leaving the two boys sat there on their own.
The two boys sat on the floor. "She was his girlfriend... but he didn't love her, he didn't even have motivation to apologise to her properly. Not like he did with Will..." Dustin sighed. They could hear Eleven freaking out angrily in the other room, but both boys knew full well that Mike wasn't interested in a romantic relationship with her.
The alarm beeped and Mike jolted up. His arm stayed firmly on the bed, he looked down. There he was, all curled up under his sheets. He didn't know what to say, he had missed sleeping next to Will... He had always been the most adorable of all of his friends. That's probably why he had taken a liking to him on the first day of kindergarten. "Cute..." Mike whispered quietly. "Hey Will, wake up," he tapped his shoulder with his spare hand. The smaller boy opened his eyes and smiled, "Good morning." Mike looked down. "Good morning." The rest of the night had been great. Mike had kept him close and Will's nightmares soon vanished. The two smiled at each other, and laughed a little too. They were kind of embarrassed, but at the same time, they loved it. "So, What now?"
