The dormitory of Class 1-A was quiet with the kind of stillness that only settled in after midnight, when even the most restless students had finally drifted off. A pale moon hung low over UA, spilling silver light across the floors of every hallway. Behind each door, a student slept soundly, dreaming of quirks and heroics and the occasional worry over an upcoming exam. Everything felt calm and peaceful, except for one room, where a single body twisted beneath a tangle of sheets.
Izuku Midoriya, the ninth user of One For All, tossed and turned in his bed. His sheets wound around his legs, and sweat gathered along his forehead. Soft, strained sounds escaped his lips every few seconds. He had worked so hard to get to UA, guided by All Might, supported by his friends, and fueled by his drive to become a hero. But tonight, something old pulled him into a realm beyond the physical world.
In Izuku's mindscape, he stood in a vast, inky abyss. The darkness was so complete that it seemed to swallow sound and light alike, leaving only the faint echo of his own breathing. His heart thudded in his chest, a rhythm that felt too loud in the oppressive silence. He took a step forward, his feet making no sound against the featureless void, and the air felt heavy, charged with an energy he could not place.
"Hello?" he called out. His voice trembled, and the world sent back only a hollow echo.
A flicker of movement caught his eye. Something was approaching fast, and his instincts kicked in at once. His hands clenched into fists, and One For All sparked faintly beneath his skin, ready to activate the moment it was needed. As the shape drew closer, his breath caught in his throat. A figure stood before him, clad in a dark gray cloak, its face hidden beneath the hood. Even so, Izuku could just make out the faint glow of its eyes. Ruby red, and they seemed to bore straight into his soul.
"Hello? Who are you?" Izuku asked.
The figure only stared at him for a moment before letting out a sigh. "So, you're the last of your kind," it said.
Izuku's eyes went wide as he spun around, and somehow the figure was already behind him. "Don't look so surprised, boy," it said. "I've simply been waiting for you."
"Waiting for me? Why? And where is this place?" Izuku asked.
"Where you are is your mindscape," the figure said. "A place where the boundaries of your soul and your heritage converge. I'm here for one purpose, and one purpose alone. To unlock what lies dormant within you."
Izuku's brow furrowed, confusion mixing with the adrenaline pumping through his veins. "My heritage? What are you talking about? What's dormant inside me? I don't understand!"
The figure let out a low, rumbling chuckle that sent a shiver down Izuku's spine. "You carry a power far stronger than your quirk, One For All," it said. "That quirk was never meant to live inside your body, and yet it's a part of you now. But you're more than the successor of All Might. You're a direct descendant of an ancient bloodline, a lineage of vampires. The last of a forgotten clan."
Izuku's mouth fell open. "Vampires?" The word felt absurd, like something out of a comic book or a late-night movie, not his own reality. "That's, that's impossible! That can't be! I've never heard of anything like that! If it were true, my mom would've said something! And my dad, well, he's overseas, but still! I've never shown a quirk like that in my life! You must have the wrong person!"
The figure's eyes gleamed with an intensity that made Izuku feel small and insignificant, yet somehow completely seen. "Doubt all you like," it said. "But the truth cannot be denied."
With that, the figure pulled back its hood, revealing a man with hair like silk and skin pale as porcelain. When he spoke, sharp fangs caught the dim light. He swept a hand through the air, and a shimmering vision bloomed between them, images flickering like an old film reel. A man with pale skin and glowing red eyes moved with inhuman speed and strength. A woman with fangs glinting in the moonlight conjured shadows that danced like living things. A battlefield showed these beings fighting alongside heroes, their power both beautiful and terrifying. Then came a familiar face. Izuku's mother, Inko, as a young woman, her eyes briefly flashing red before she visibly suppressed it, her expression settling into quiet resignation.
