It is beautiful outside. The sun is shining and it's only 70 degrees. A cool breeze brushes my face as I walk under a sign that exclaims, "Welcome to Disney Land". This is the best day to be at a theme park. My mom by my side smiling as her face lights up with excitement. Nothing could possibly go wrong.
"Hazel! Hazel" my mother yelled. "Will you ride with your Uncle" she said as if tired of him asking. My stomach dropped, "I can't" I replied. "Sure, you can. The big kids won't come there're too scared. Please ride with me. You'll be braver the older kids" Uncle Steve interrupted. With the line of temptation that my Uncle gave me I decided to take his offer.
As we walked under the huge arch in the wall the reality of what I'm about to do sunk in. I hoped for a two hour wait so I could use that excuse to get out of riding and keep my dignity. Luck was against me for the room was empty like a pool on a winter day. Without a soul in sight we walked through the person less line. My heart is beating out of my chest and the knot in my stomach tightens. I walk up to the cart standing at the opening trying to gain the courage to step in. My Uncle gave me a little push that made me take the step.
I sat down onto the warm sit. I looked down and saw thousands of buckles and straps. I know this is going to be the worst experience of my life. The worked check each strap and then pulled a bar over my head. My heart starts to beat faster and faster. Sweat rolls down my cheek. The taste of the burger I ate an hour ago fills my mouth. The butterflies attack my stomach creating enormous pain. The screen above my head counts down from 5...4...3...2...GO.
We are thrown out of the building. The strong wind blowing in my face makes it difficult to keep my eyes open. All I feel are forces pulling left, right, up, and down. I try to look over at my Uncle, but I was only able to catch a glimpse at the smile on his face going from ear to ear. The butterflies escape my stomach and I start to feel excited and happy. Next thing I know the cart comes to a sudden stop. As I am launched forward by the force my head hits the seat in front of me.
Darkness. I hear a faint sound of sirens. I'm in and out consciousness. Suddenly, I feel weightless. I'm shook awake by my Uncle. I snap into consciousness a realize that the sky is down, and the ground is up. I hear creaking. I feel small movements by the cart as if slowly inching forward. I look up to see crowds of people surrounding the roller-coaster. I hear a release of pressure next thing I know the bar keeping me glued to the seat lifts. The only thing keeping me in my seat is one thin strap buckled to my side. I feel lucky knowing I almost fell to my death. With the movement of my butt I realized I am slipping out from under the strap. My palms are sweaty as I try to grab on to anything I can reach. With one fluid moments I was holding on for my life. I slipped out from under the strap holding onto the raised bar. My Uncle reaches for me but falls short a couple inches. I can feel my grip weakening. The sweat on my hands makes my grip even weaker. I close my eyes as my heart beats a million per minute. I can't hold on anymore. I release my grip and fall.
I open my eyes thinking I'll see nothing but darkness but to my surprise I see people standing over me. My hands feel the material around as I came to the conclusion that I landed on big blow up cushion. My heart beat is fast and I am shaking. In shock of all that just happened I walked up to my mother who stood at the police line. Trembling I walk up to her with my head down. Right when I got within a couple feet I am bombarded with a million questions. "Are you okay? Are you hurt? Were you scared?" She stopped as she saw I wasn't responding. "Hazel?", she said puzzled by my appearance. I looked up at her as a smile grew on my face, "Can I go again?"
