the absolute STATE of modern cartoons

watched a couple of clips from steven universe future and tbh this is not a kids show anymore. i cannot think of a single kid who would find enjoyment in watching this show. the crew are now very openly making a show that is geared towards an insecure adult fanbase

and you know if you wanna make a cartoon for adults then theres nothing wrong with that. but dont pitch it as a kids show and start it off that way, only to gradually descend it into dark edgy hell and actively alienate the kids from your audience. like fuckin hell there were some cartoons and animated films i enjoyed as a kid that had darker themes to them but nothing like this

i guarantee you that no kid would be able to sit through a single episode of this show without getting bored or confused. theres nothing intrinsically wrong with tackling more dark mature subject matter in a kids show, and obviously kids arent stupid, but it has to be broken up by comedy and more of a saturday-morning-cartoon vibe cos no child would enjoy watching a show that is NOTHING but heavy plot stuff and dark themes. like when i was 8 years old i wasnt watching samurai jack for the deep overarching plot i was watching it for the cool action scenes and the goofy funny villain

also these themes have to be done in a way that children can understand and the way that steven universe future handles say ptsd is SO on the nose
