"What about the shortcut?" Sarah was adamant to take the shortcut since she wanted to experience what it was like venturing through it. There were multiple rumours that people should not travel down the shortcut after midnight. As much as I tried to persuade her to take the longer route as it was a lot less secluded, she continued to be persistent. In the end I agreed to go, what harm could possibly come our way?
Walking down the eerie street brought a slight shiver up my spine. It was extremely derelict and sequestered, not a single person in sight except from Sarah and I. The street lights subdued and the houses remained hidden under their shadows. The trees clawed against each other, desperate to be set free from such confinement. I was feeling apprehensive from this unsettling atmosphere and was dubious about continuing with our journey, "Sarah, I really think we should go back. This shortcut is making me feel uneasy." To my surprise, Sarah began to laugh, "Don't be so foolish! Turn around, there is someone behind you! Help! Help!" I immediately spun my head around and saw absolutely nothing. I felt infuriated at this moment and Sarah could tell by my face as my jaw clenched and my squinted eyes fixated on her mouth that was trembling. The laughter in Sarah's mouth was unable to contain itself and escaped within seconds, instantly striking me. I had enough with her, "Listen Sarah! I am sick and tired of your jokes! You want to carry on taking the shortcut, then go ahead because I am going back to take the other route home." Sarah was displeased by how I responded to her mischievousness, "Come on! Why are you so serious about everything all the time? I was only jo..." Suddenly, she froze and looked behind me, "Turn around, there is someone standing behind you." I immediately responded, "You still have the nerve to mess around with me despite everything that I just said to you!" Without reluctance, Sarah grabbed my shoulders and spun me around.
