Sixteen, a crucial stage in the middle of your teenage years where your trying to be mature but still count as one of those young and naïve. But for me, it is one of the happiest day in my entire orphaned life.
Yes, orphaned.
Sister Monet, one of the oldest nuns living in St Jude monastery, told me my mom left me when I was barely three months old. According to her, they just finished having their midnight prayer that night when someone was banging the door crying for help. When they opened the door, a crying woman just shove a small bundle to them while muttering "help Angela Evans" repeatedly and ran away. The nuns was so surprised they did not even try to stop my mom and ask what happened. They waited for my mom to get me back but she did not come back. I was later on baptized and they named me Angela Evans thinking it's supposed to be the name my mom gave me, but it's not.
A few months later, a dead body was found in the neighboring town. It was my mentally unstable mom, Angela Evans, killed by my drug addict dad. He was imprisoned but died due to a heart attack a year later.
Life is hard for me. It is really a struggle specially when you get bullied regularly at school for not having a mom and a dad. But you can't even do anything, not even a punch, or a kick. Living a life surrounded by nuns prevent me to fight back. I almost give up.
But thanks to Sister Monet, giving me her words of wisdom like "keep your faith stronger, God bless those people who do good deed and be humble." God gave me Eric Yezerden, my love, my life, the personification of hope. Eric and I were friends since childhood.
His mom, Emma is one of the few religious people living in this town. She is one of the church volunteer and often seen in the Church beside the monastery.
I am the damsel in distress while he is my Knight in shining armor. He is the one who always rescue me every time I get bullied. My best companion when I'm lonely. The one who makes me laugh and makes me happy. So at a young age of eight, l knew what love is.
I LOVE HIM.
I'm willing to give up anything for him. I told everyone that I love him. The nuns in the monastery, Father Miguel, the priest, and I even told Emma I love his son.
She just smile at me and told me I have so much to learn and a long way to go in this life. It is just an infatuation.
But it's not, I know it. I told Eric I love him and promised to marry him when I'm on my appropriate age to get married.
He gave me his most heart warming smile and said "we will someday". We are both so young, I'm just thirteen at that time when I confessed to him and his two years older than me.
I've patiently waited. Being young to do anything is so distressing.
When I turned sixteen, all those waiting finally worthwhile when he ask me to be his girlfriend and make our relationship official. I felt like I can jump so high I can touch the cloud and shout out to the world I'm already one step closer to marry the man I love.
Oh boy I was sooo wrong...
