Oil Fire

7 1 1

My future burned bright;
A liquid ball of fire
In a world of shadow.
The potency of my light
Threatened to shatter
The brittle darkness.

You were a forgotten pale of ice water,
Always biting your rusty lip in suspense
And moaning to extinguish something,
To destiny a beautiful thing.
You wanted to hear the screams
Of hot embers as you murdered them.

You caught me off guard one day,
Releasing your murderous contents on me as I was smelling the roses.
You cackled and hissed as my fiery sparks crackled and sizzled
But refused to go out.

Because I am an oil fire;
Each drop of your bitter winter
Spread my light to break up the dark.
Hairline fractures grew in the shadows,
Threatening to melt away to nothing.
I can not be contained.
