Cora's dad pushed the door of the ship open. Mama climbed inside and Daddy tossed Cora over the big gap. He climbed inside and took one of the bags of luggage.
"Follow me. Our room number is 618." Daddy said. Cora grabbed her father's hand and one of her mother's and skipped along the narrow hallway. Suddenly two big men came trampling through the end of the hall, dodging people as they went.
"Excuse me." One of the men said to daddy as he went past.
Cora followed her daddy and her mama to their room.
"Third Class" the big sign on the door read. "Room 618"
Cora glanced to her right. The two men who were trampling the hallway before were opening a room right next to Cora's.
Cora's Mama opened the door. Cora gasped when she saw the room. It was more beautiful then she imigined. There were two beds on one side of the room, and two on the other. There was a sink in the middle of the room with a bowl. Another lady whom Cora had never seen before was washing at the sink.
"How do you do?" She said. "I'm Phillis O'Briean. Are you folks from Ireland?"
"Yes we are." Mama said. "I'm Ella Cartmell, and this is my husband Bert, and my daughter Cora."
"How do you do?" Cora said curtsying. She had seen the first class lady do that to a man before they boarded the ship. Daddy tiped his hat to her.
Daddy tossed Cora up onto the top bunk of the bed. Then her Mama and Daddy began unpacking the suitcases they had brought. Cora took off her own brown coat, and folded it nicely. She handed it to her mother who placed it on the bottom of her bed.
Cora jumped down from the bunk bed with her doll and went through her suitcase. Cora saw she had her white apron with lace trimming. It was her only apron, but her favorite. She also has a red hat too, just like her doll, and an extra pair of black stockings.
"Cora, lets go onto the top deck. The ship should be leaving soon. We can see the crowds!" Daddy said.
"Oh good!" Cora said. "Mama, are you coming too?" Cora said looking up at her mom.
"No, Cora. I think I'll stay here and unpack." She said smiling. "You go on with daddy and tell me what it is like."
"Okay!" Cora said happily. She skipped, holding her daddy's hand, through the hallway and up onto the deck where first and second class people were allowed.
Cora sat on her daddy's shoulders and waved to all the people watching Titanic leave the harbor. The people looked like tiny ants all huddled together. Cora felt as big as a giant compared to all those little people. The soft breeze rufled her hair, and blew it by her face. She couldn't wait to see what awaited next for her, on the Titanic.
