Hermione Granger awoke with a start as she heard a tapping noise on the window pane of her bedroom window.
It was 6:30am and the sun was creeping over the horizon, warming the crisp, cool air.
Crawling out of her bed, she sauntered over to the window to let in the snowy white owl holding two letters in its beak.
Recognizing the Hogwarts crest on the back, she opened the letter and read.
Dear Miss Hermione Granger,
We are pleased to inform you that you have been accepted to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Giving unfortunate circumstances last year, we have decided to offer you a chance to return this year to complete your education and retake your final exams. This year is optional should you choose to return.
All information about your courses and necessary equipment for the year are listed below. We hope to see you back when term begins on September 1.
Minerva McGonagall, Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Hermione grinned from ear to ear. She was excited to be going back to Hogwarts. She was hoping more than anything to have a normal year. She picked up the second letter and read.
Dear Miss Hermione Granger,
On behalf of the school and myself, I am pleased to inform you that you have been selected for the position of Head Girl this following year should you choose to return to Hogwarts.
I would like to congratulate you on your success and achievements. It is a well earned privilege. We look forward to having you back Miss Granger.
Minerva McGonagall, Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
Inside the envelope was a shiny new Head Girl badge. She beamed at it with adoration.
She was so excited to be accepted for the position. It's something she's dreamed of achieving since she first came to Hogwarts. She knew deep down this was going to be the best year ever.

Platform 9 3/4. The place it all began. Hermione was excited yet a little sad knowing this would be the last time she would board this train.
She was even more upset at the fact that her 2 best friends wouldn't be joining her in retuning to Hogwarts.
Both Harry and Ron were never too thrilled about redoing classes and taking NEWTs. They decided to start Ministry training instead.
At least she had Ginny, Luna, and Neville, who she loved just as much.
They placed their luggage in the bins above their head and sat down ready to start their adventure.
"I can't wait to kick Slytherins ass in Quidditch. I've been training with Harry all summer. I miss him. I wish he was coming this year," Ginny said happy at first then sad at the fact she'll have to go a year without her love.
"I'll miss them too. It won't be the same without them," Hermione sighed looking out the window wishing she could expirence this last year with her best friends.
They'd been through so much together. It felt weird to not have them around.
"Bet you won't be missing my dummy of the brother too much," Ginny laughed.
"He's still my friend Gin," she smiled. After the battle Ron and Hermione dated for the summer, but there wasn't a spark and they both agreed they were better as friends.
