Tennessee looked up at his boss with disbelief. "What..?" He asked, not sure what to think. "Look, I'm sorry, kid," The boss started, "But you're just not giving it your all. We need people who can turn in things on time and get here early enough to do so." It wasn't his fault that he'd not turned things in or come in late. Tennessee's coworkers kept giving him their work, and he couldn't sleep, so he slept in.
"I-I'm sorry.. I can fix it...!" Tennessee said, giving the boss a look as if to plead for him not to be fired. "I believe you can, but I'm afraid it's too late for that now. You're dismissed." The boss replied, going back to the work on his desk. Tennessee sighed defeatedly, walking out of the boss's office and closing the door behind him. He went down a flight of stairs and into a large room with other people, making his way to his small workspace.
He grabbed a small box and started loading things into it. Once the box was filled with his belongings from his workspace, he picked it up and left, not saying a word to any of his coworkers. He walked home with the box in hand, and once he got home, he set it onto a small table in the living room. Tennessee sighed and walked back outside. I need a drink, he thought, starting to make his way to a small bar downtown that he always went to. He made it there, and immediately noticed a sign on one of the small windows.
The sign read, 'Now Hiring'. Tennessee's eyes lit up, and he made his way inside right away. He sat down at one of the barstools, and one of the bartenders came. "Nice to see you here again, Tenn. What'll it be this time?" He asked. "Oh, y'know, just the usual glass of whiskey," Tennessee replied. The bartender nodded and poured up a glass, handing it to him. "So, what's up with that sign out front?" Tennessee asked the bartender. "Oh, that?" The bartender said, "What, you interested in working here?" "Maybe," Tennessee said, taking a sip of his whiskey. "We'd really like to have you here," The bartender said. "We hire anyone from just about any background. I can take you to see Oregon." Oregon was the manager of this specific facility, which makes sense, considering his state has may breweries.
"Sure, actually. That would be nice," Tennessee smiled. "Great! This way," The bartender said, motioning for him to come around to the back. Tennessee followed the bartender into a room. The room had a desk and some papers on it, and a glass of beer to one side. The man sitting at the desk looked up. "Oh, Tenn, I wasn't expecting you here," Oregon said. "What do you need?" He inquired. "I saw the sign out front, and I was wondering if it was possible for me to work here, even for just part time?" Tennessee responded. Oregon smiled. "That would be great!" After a few minutes of negotiating, Tennessee was hired for a job there. He had taken night shifts, since there were few people who did it. "You start tomorrow night. Is that alright with you?" Oregon stated. "Yup, I'll be here, eight o'clock sharp," Tennessee replied.
The next day at 8:00 PM, Tennessee arrived for his first shift. He was given instructions from another bartender, which seemed pretty easy. After he had gotten the procedure down, he officially started serving people drinks. Most people were polite, and others were kind of rude. He didn't mind, though. He already had to deal with people getting drunk and acting oddly towards him, and some people passing out or throwing up. He was prepared, though.
But then he walked in the doors.

A/N: This is the first story I've ever written to publish- I've written others, but they were only for myself and off the top of my head (and really bad-). Sorry it was so short- I hope you liked this chapter, though, and there's more to come! Thanks!
I was absolutely terrified to publish this ;v;
