Now that Nate Jacobs had sealed his fate at a possible prison sentence indefinitely-his house was not the proper place East Highland would have wanted to throw a spring break party, as they would have done before.

The rest of East Highland seemed to be shocked, almost appalled by the fact that their precious golden boy was as violent and criminal as the rumors had said.

Rue had been a little reluctant to flat out do it- run to her phone, pressing the name of Jules from her contacts, calling her, and spilling the information. It wasn't exactly shocking that Nate would be getting a taste of justice one day after the string of trouble he brought everyone around him, but it was unbelievable that Rue had lived to see it.

Jules, on the other hand-was no where to be found. Rue had thought on calling her, multiple times since the moment last school dance when she had left. To fill her in on how she'd been, to know how Jules was-and what ways the world had gotten slightly less shitty for the both of them.

But Rue had decided against it, both for her heart and sobreity's sake. If she'd dialed Jules, only to be left with a voice mail, she'd certainly end up stalking Jules's socials, despite the nagging in her head that she should've let silence stay silence, that is wasn't meant to be right now, or that Jules could've been busy or not wanted to see her. So it was best not to wonder and find out at all.

It was spring break, and the curly haired brunette was no fan of wishful thinking: the dreaded idea that the world would magically change when the clock struck 12AM, and flowers begin to bloom again-that every painful trace of hell from the past year was going to be erased.

Gia and her mom had been off, driving to gather a few decorations for a small, Bennett-only party.

Rue's mind had been set on it, at least leading after the rest of her family and finding something to bring joy to an otherwise crappy school break. Gia hadn't been keen on bringing in anyone, since her friends practically lived in her phone, and no where in her neighborhood. And after Rue's last insult-fuled talk with Jules's dad, her mom hadn't planned on bringing any new "friends" home.

So Rue, in this case, was lucky. Lexi lived just a short walk from her house, and was sure her mother wouldn't have minded one more guest.

She'd put on her father's jacket, plucked her phone from her bed, grabbing her house key and walking out the door.

When what felt like 2 minutes had passed, Rue had gone straight, and then taken a left to the Howards. They lived in a medium size house, 2 stories and not that much different from Rue's.

It was familar to her eyes, locked in her memory from the years she'd played with Lexi when they were kids, but now with a tainted feeling she couldn't shake off.

Lexi's house also became Rue's get-out-drug-trouble free card, and a small bit of her was begging to know if she'd tainted Lexi as well.

That with as vile as Rue acted during her relapses, Lexi held her tongue and sucked up Rue's venom, learning not to question Rue when she wanted the obvious.

Thinking about it made Rue feel like a poison, meant to be locked away in some vial so she could never pollute Lexi. Every inch of her mind pulling at her to turn back right now and forget ever wanting to meet again.
