-Emma-
I opened my eyes, hearing the dog barking downstairs.
"I'm coming Wookie." I groaned, kicking the blankets off.
I descended the stairs, combing my hair into a ponytail, to see my dog standing at the back door, tail wagging excitedly.
"Calm down before you ruin the carpet again, go on." I opened the door and let her out, for her to dart across the yard happily.
I yawned and headed to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee, and look for some breakfast.
I dug through the cupboard until I found a box of Lucky Charms, and poured some into a bowl.
Just as I sat down to eat, I heard my phone ringing upstairs.
I sighed, and jogged up the stairs to get it.
"Hello?" I asked, balancing the phone on my shoulder.
"Morning Em's." Mila chimed cheerfully.
"I haven't had my coffee yet, Mila." I replied, walking back downstairs.
"And?" She laughed.
"I can't handle your level of enthusiasm yet." I sat down at the table.
"So, are we on for lunch this afternoon?" she ignored my comment.
"Yeah, I gotta stop by the office for a meeting at ten, but it shouldn't run longer than an hour or so, then we'll meet up somewhere." I said.
"Sounds like a plan, man." She said.
"Cool. I'm going to finish my breakfast in peace now, okay?" I asked.
"Roger that." She replied, laughing as she hung up.
I had just laid my phone down, when it started to ring again.
I sighed, and picked it up, "Hello?"
"Emma! Did I wake you?" Richard asked.
"No, I'm having breakfast. What's up?" I asked.
"Got a phone call from a PR agent this morning, he's got a concert coming up at the Hollywood Bowl, and he liked your work from the Death Valley show, he wants to book you to shoot the concert, maybe even the whole tour for this band he does press for." he said.
"What's it pay?" I got straight down to business, as usual.
"Depends on how much they like your photos, but he said upwards of five grand. More if they like what they see." Richard said.
I shrugged, "I'll have to talk to the guy myself, but that sounds bomb as fuck." I said.
"I'll forward his number to you, so you can get in contact with him." He said.
"Cool beans. I'm gonna finish my breakfast now, bye Richie!" I hit end, and slid my phone across the table.
I washed my bowl and spoon, and poured a cup of coffee, before heading upstairs to get ready.
I turned on the TV, and went into the bathroom.
I brushed my hair, and put on my face, before changing into a button-up blouse and denim shorts, paired with my favorite Converse low-tops, and slung my purse over my shoulder.
I switched the TV off, and went downstairs, re-filling Wookie's food and water bowls on the back patio, before locking the back door and heading out.
My phone went off again while I was sitting at a red-light, and I picked it up, "Hello?"
"Emma!" Molly squealed.
"I hate that you and Mila are morning people." I retorted, annoyed.
"Oh, I'm not. I'm just excited."
"About what? Did you find Mr. Right again, last night Molly?" I teased.
"Ha Ha, fuck you Emma. No, as a matter of fact, I didn't. I did find Mr. I-last-45-seconds-after-five-minutes-of-foreplay though." She replied.
I laughed, "Thought you swore off men for good after Jason."
"Well, a girl's got needs Emma. Not that YOU would know anything about that, seeing as how you haven't gotten laid since you broke up with Alex two years ago." She teased.
"More important things in life than sex, Mol." I chuckled.
"Em, you're 24 years old, that's literally supposed to be one of the most important things." Molly said.
"Well, whoever said I was anything like other girls my age?" I asked.
"You so are not." She was rolling her eyes, I could tell by the tone of her voice.
"Is there another reason for the call Molly? Other than to berate me for not being a slut like you and Mila?" I asked.
"Yes, actually," She quipped, "I called to tell you that I'm going to a concert next week with the guy I met last night." She said.
"Well, it must have been a pretty erotic forty five seconds for you to want to go out with him." I teased.
"Eh, I wouldn't rate it in my top ten sexual experiences, but he is cute, and he's taking me to a concert where I don't have to pay for anything. Sometimes you gotta take one for the team, Ems." she said.
"What concert?" I asked, turning into my office parking lot.
"It's going to be at the Hollywood Bowl, but I forget who he said is playing." She said.
"Right on, I might be there too." I said.
"Ooh, did you get a date, finally?" She sounded excited.
"No," I rolled my eyes, "For work. I may be photographing the concert." I said.
"Do you do ANYTHING besides work?" She asked.
I laughed, "Bye Molly." I hung up and put my phone in my pocket.
