There are so many different ways to do critique exchanges on Wattpad. Some do structured weekly or bi-weekly assignments, with groups or pairs of authors that are given a number of chapters to complete. There are also more relaxed ones where the authors have more freedom to choose how much they exchange with that author, and have a much longer timeframe to complete it.

What we were hoping to achieve here is a way that authors can give and receive critiques without having to be specifically assigned, but still be able to be accountable and not be putting in more than they take out of it.

The flip side of this is that we don't want to force people to read books that they're not interested in or don't feel that they have enough expertise to critique. While we're all about broadening horizons and trying new things, sometimes people prefer to stick to their genre and sometimes that can be best for what they're trying to achieve. So we want people to be able to read what they want.

We used to have a structured monthly roster where the account was responsible for making sure everyone was doing at least one chapter critique a month, but that didn't seem to be working for members, so we've changed to an ongoing roster.

Here's how it works:

-You apply to the club via PM, and receive the application exam.

-After passing the exam, you're invited to do a critique trial of a Wattpad book to make sure that your skills are up to snuff.

-You'll be sent a google form to enter all of your information, including a little bio about yourself and what you can offer in the way of critiques and also what you're looking for with regards to your own books. You can list up to three books.

-A chapter will be added to the Hurricane Betas book, and then you'll be available for authors to swap with you!

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy. Keep in mind, you don't have to have a listing to approach one of the authors listed in the book, but they might be more keen to swap with someone who's been vetted for critique quality.
