Growing Pains

The people say I shouldn't look to the stars,

They say I shouldn't look beyond Mars,

For guidance or more.

So I look deep inside it all,

The struggle and the fall,

To keep myself going when the world around me,

Seems to all but hold.

I'm stuck outside the societal mold.

The people say I'm strong,

They say I've held on for this long.

But little do they know how exhausted I am.

So I look deep inside it all,

The struggle and the fall,

To keep myself going when the world around me,

Seems to stand still.

I'm running off of my own empty will.

Growing up has taught me pain,

Coming up has taught me to sustain.

All of the injuries that burn deep inside.

And I'm learning to heal all alone.

I'm stuck outside the societal mold, all on my own.

So I look deep inside it all,

The struggle and the fall,

To keep myself going when the world around me,

Seems to forget.

And I'll try to remember,

Waiting for the snow to fall in this cold December.

WIthout the warmth of your fireplace and your golden embers.

These nights alone are getting old.

And these growing pains are keeping me up at night.

And tomorrow I know it'll hurt to stand.

The people say I shouldn't look to the stars,

They say I shouldn't look beyond mars.

So I look deep inside it all,

The struggle and the fall,

To keep myself going when the world around me,

Seems to all but hold.
