A Dying Dream

Waves and daylight
broke on the same shore
that I did this morning
and what was dark
could no longer hide

The only place
I had found solace
was stolen
by the solar interruption
of an inner star

Eyes piercing
this cloud of comfort
disrupting my illusion
of a complacent pattern
and apathy

I saw some mirror
and my condition
became apparent
to my sleeping soul
in the universal dream

Standing to my feet
I realized the truth
We have not progressed
but an inch
We have been held back

The climb is great
The destination hidden
Yet I know there is
a place beyond
which waits

If I am free now
Then the time has come
to walk ahead
to leave behind
a dying dream
