Pilot: Part One

DEX AND LEE
What?!

CAPTAIN HAYES
Unless, you two have a problem with that?

DEX AND LEE
(quickly)
No sir!

CAPTAIN HAYES
Good. You are to stay here until Agent Walkins and Agent Bower return from their mission.

DEX
And, what time would that be?

CAPTAIN HAYES
I don't know. But they should be back before 2am.

Both Dex and Lee make motions to protest, but Hayes holds up his hand, stopping them.

CAPTAIN HAYES
My decision is final.

Hayes is about to leave, but he pauses for a moment and turns around.

CAPTAIN HAYES
I know how smart you two can be, but please. If you see something suspicious, call it in. Council agents will not hesitate to kill you. Understand?

Dex nods, but Lee doesn't.

CAPTAIN HAYES
Fischer?

Lee pauses, then nods. There is silence as Captain Hayes leaves with Dex and Lee watching him. Once he is gone, Dex growls angrily and Lee kicks a smallish device lying on the ground. Maxine looks over at the device as it sparks up and dies.

MAXINE
Was that important?

LEE
No. What the hell just happened?

MAXINE
You were just told to-

DEX
We know! It was meant to be rhetorical!

MAXINE
(Skeptical)
Was it though?

LEE
(Annoyed)
Yes.

MAXINE
Why are you so salty about this? Everyone has to stay late at some point. You'll just have to stay with the night crew until you get to go home. They really aren't that bad.

DEX
That may be true for you, but do you know who is on the night crew tonight?

MAXINE
Who?

LEE
Bakes.

DEX
Stallone.

LEE
Markus.

DEX
And Archer.

LEE
Otherwise known as the douchebags of the scientists.

DEX
And they are especially rude to us.

Maxine shakes her head until her phone dings. She takes her phone out and looks at it.

MAXINE
Well, sorry you two. I'd love to stay but my brother needs some assistance. I'll see you guys tomorrow.

LEE
Sure. Tell Nick hi for us.

Maxine gives Lee a thumbs up as she leaves the lab. Before she leaves completely, she pokes her head back into the lab.

MAXINE
This place is a mess by the way.

Lee throws a small gear at Dex, who catches it and throws it at Maxine, who is already gone.

LEE
(Crosses her arms, pouting)
Jerk.

CUT TO:
INT. ABANDONED BUILDING - NIGHT
Bracken is sitting in an old and dirty cushioned chair in a room, where the only light comes from the computer he is looking at. In the opposite corner, Markovetz is tied to a chair. His feet are taped together and his hands are taped behind his back. Blood is running down the side of his face and one of his eyes are swollen shut, along with multiple other bruises and wounds.
Bracken is decoding messages from the Council as Torres enters the building. She walks into the room and Bracken looks up.
