MAXINE
I would say so.
Dex and Lee turn around as Maxine walks into the lab with her arms crossed, but smiling. Dex looks from Maxine to Lee, then back to Maxine.
DEX
(suspicious)
How would you know? Unless you two have walkie talkies that you haven't shared with me.
Maxine raises her eyebrow as Lee takes a small gear from the floor and throws it at Dex, which hits him in the shoulder. Dex rubs his shoulder and looks at Lee with a fake hurt expression.
LEE
She could've talked to Agent Kayne you know.
DEX
Oh, yeah.
MAXINE
(laughs)
I haven't seen Agent Kayne today. I just considered the fact that Lee hasn't been thrown into a pit of fire ants yet.
DEX
(tilts his head at Lee)
You don't believe that Agent Kayne would do that, do you?
LEE
(points to Dex in a "don't question it" way)
She would do it, and you know it.
MAXINE
Without a doubt.
Dex still looks skeptical, but before he could say anything, Lee snapped her fingers.
LEE
Oh, I almost forgot!
DEX
Forgot what?
LEE
(sighs)
You and I have to get ready for a mission
DEX
You've got to be joking!
LEE
Nope. Hayes said, and I quote, (impersonates Captain Hayes) "I need you and Grant to get ready for a mission."
DEX
(sits down in a swivel chair and spins around)
Wonderful. I half wish that it was the Grant from rookie training.
LEE
You mean the one who spoke out over every order he was given, and had to be suspended from the training for a month?
DEX
(pauses)
I take that back.
MAXINE
(leaning back on Lee's desk)
Wait, what's wrong with going on a mission? I've been on them for years and they really aren't that bad.
LEE
Because you are used to it. We have never been in the field.
DEX
We don't even know how to fight. All we have is our genius minds.
MAXINE
That might be going a little too far you two.
LEE
Not for a teen with his score of majors.
Maxine looks at Dex in confusion, and a bit of interest.
DEX
(counting on his fingers)
Mathematician, system analysis, computer sciences...
LEE
And don't forget computer programming.
DEX
(points at Lee)
Yeah. That too.
MAXINE
That's four majors. How the hell is that even possible for an 18-year-old?
LEE
It's not that weird.
Lee pulls out a lollipop from under her desk and tosses it to Dex, who starts unwrapping it.
LEE
I've got four majors as well.
MAXINE
What? You're lying.
LEE
I'm not, actually. I've majored in applied mechanics, applied and computational mathematics, chemical engineering and applied physics.
Maxine is speechless.
LEE
Now you're the one looking at me weird.
Lee takes another lollipop from under her desk and hold it out to Maxine.
