Pilot Script

Pilot: Part One

MAXINE
On the USB in the file.

Hayes looks through the file and finds the USB. He plugs it into his computer and pulls up the file. A security video of a mall food court pops up and starts playing. Hayes and Maxine watches as a woman walks up to one of the payphones and dials a number.
[The audio is muffled and scratchy]

TORRES
(in the footage)
We have all we need. What do we do next?

HAYES
And we are sure that this is a Council agent?

MAXINE
Positive. Bakes ran her through facial recognition and she popped up on our Council watch list.

TORRES
(in the footage)
Yes ma'am. We didn't get everything, but he wasn't giving anything else up.

The video ends, then starts again. The footage plays in a loop.

HAYES
We have her information?

MAXINE
Everything except where she is right now.

HAYES
I have a pretty good idea.

CUT TO:
INT. DEX AND LEE'S LAB - CONTINUOUS
Lee is working on a small device on her desk. With goggles over her eyes, she is crouched down, staring very intently at the device as she lowers a small pen-looking item to it. She presses a button on the side and a small blue flame appears at the end. She grabs a small piece of metal and presses it against the device. She uses the small pen to weld the two pieces together.
Scientists Holt and Warsh appear in the doorway and knock on the side of the wall. Lee looks up, spots them, and groans.

LEE
(pushing her goggles up)
What do you two want?

HOLT
Nothing. We're just looking for something to break.

Lee holds up a remote and Holt and Warsh look at each other and laugh. Lee presses a button and a giant laser-looking device comes out of the wall, aimed right at Holt and Warsh.

LEE
(stands up)
Don't try it Holt.

HOLT
(backs away)
Hey, hey, hey. We were just kidding Fischer.

WARSH
(backs away as well)
Yeah. Just kidding.

LEE
Get outta here.

Holt and Warsh nod and run upstairs.

LEE
(shaking her head)
Dicks.

Dex was walking down the stairs and watches the two men run upstairs. Dex smiles and enters the lab as Lee tinkers with the machine. She is standing on a stool because she couldn't reach the top of the machine.

DEX
Were they trying to break something?

Lee can't respond because she has her wrench in her mouth, so she nods instead. Then she takes the wrench out of her mouth and starts working again.

DEX
(sighs)
Do you think they'll ever find out that the so-called "laser" is just a giant fan?

LEE
(jumps down from the stool)
Not unless we tell them. And we won't, right?

DEX
Course not. It's hilarious watching them run away scared.

LEE
Right?

Lee pulls her goggles off of her head as she puts her wrench back in her belt. She takes her hat from her belt and puts it on backwards. After her hat is on, Lee takes a strap and hangs the goggles on it.

LEE
(as she fixes her hat and goggles)
I finished fixing the bugs.

DEX
Sweet. Did you get Agent Kayne her stuff?
