Pilot Script

Pilot: Part One

HAYES
Fischer.

Lee quickly throws her lollipop in the trash, closes her laptop, and looks up.

LEE
Yes sir?

HAYES
I need you and Grant to get ready for a mission.

LEE
Are you kidding?

HAYES
No. Why would I be joking about a mission?

LEE
I don't know.

Silence for a moment.

LEE
We've never been on a mission before! We make everything here in the safety of the agency.

HAYES
I know. I thought that you could try something new for once.

LEE
(leans back in her chair and crosses her arms)
After two years?

HAYES
Yes. Unless, you have a problem with that?

LEE
(sighs)
No sir.

Lee picks up her mug and takes a sip.

HAYES
Good. Also, Agent Kayne is waiting in the lab for the supplies for her assignment.

LEE
(spits her drink out in surprise)
That's today? Why the freak didn't you lead with that? (looks in the mug) What is this stuff?

Lee sets the mug down, disgusted, as Hayes sighs.

HAYES
It's coffee and yes, it is today. You'd better get down there. We both know how Kayne gets when she doesn't get her supplies.

LEE
(shudders)
Yes we do.

Pause. Hayes clears his throat and Lee snaps out of her trance.

LEE
I'll get down there now.

CAPTAIN HAYES
Good.

Hayes leaves and Lee sprints out of her office. As she runs by Dex's office, he pokes his head out of his office door in confusion.

DEX
Where are you going?

LEE
(Doesn't slow down and yells)
To stop myself from being thrown into a pit of fire ants!

Lee shoots down the staircase and Dex smiles as he leans on his doorway. Maxine appears next to him and hands him a folder while watching Lee disappear.

MAXINE
What's wrong with her?

DEX
If I had to guess, she's late giving Agent Kayne her supplies.

MAXINE
Oh.

Slight pauses as she looks down at her file.

MAXINE
She's going to have to run faster than that.

DEX
Yeah... five bucks says she makes it in time.

Maxine looks up from the files and raises her eyebrow at Dex. He returns it with an inquiring look. Maxine finally grins and starts laughing.

MAXINE
You are so on.

Maxine hands the files to Dex, who takes them and looks through the first one.

DEX
What's all this?

MAXINE
Rockwell wants you to correct his reports for spelling errors and stuff like that.

DEX
(sighs)
He is a thirty-year-old man, why can't he do it himself?

Rockwell appears behind Dex and leans on his shoulder, making Maxine and Dex jump.
