Pilot: Part One

LEE
Damn right I don't.

BAKES
(sarcastically)
Really? Gosh, I've never noticed.

DEX
(warning)
Lee.

Lee's eyes flash dark blue and she pauses. She blinks a few times and shakes her head before continuing as if nothing had happened.

LEE
(ignoring Dex)
Yes you have. You are aware of everything we do whether we like it or not. Oh, which reminds me.

Lee kicks around some of the gadgets around the floor until she picks up a camera and throws it at Bakes.

LEE
We found your stupid spy cam.

BAKES
(confused)
This isn't mine kid.

LEE
(sarcastic)
Really? Well then, let's all ask Markus who it belongs to?

Bakes and Archer turn to Markus in confusion as Markus protests.

MARKUS
How did you find it? And why do you think it's me?

ARCHER
(looks at the camera)
Markus, your name is on it.

BAKES
(whispers)
I told you to hide it better!

LEE
We can hear you.

BAKES
So what?

DEX
Please, just tell us what you want so we can avoid conflict.

ARCHER
But that's what we want Grant.

DEX
(to himself)
Of course it is.

BAKES
Exactly. You don't have your agent buddies to hide behind tonight. So let's find out how smart you two really are.

LEE Who says we're hiding?

DEX
(to Lee)
Why are they so childish?

LEE
Don't know, don't care. Get out of our lab!

Bakes walks forward until he is right in front of Lee. They glare at each other for a moment, Dex watching with worry, Archer and Markus watching with interest.

BAKES
(quiet but threatening)
You think that you can order us around? Your dad might've been able to do that, but you will never get that right. You won't ever be like him.

Lee looks slightly hurt and Bakes scoffs and backs up a bit.

BAKES
That's what I thought.

BOWER
Bakes?

Bakes turns around to see Agent Bower and Agent Walkins standing behind Markus and Archer in the doorway.

WALKINS
Is there a problem here?

Archer and Markus turn around in shock. Dex sighs in relief and grabs his satchel, Lee's backpack, then Lee's arm while heading for the door.

DEX
Nope. We were just leaving. Hope you two had a successful mission!

Dex turns the lights off and shuts the lab doors while dragging Lee behind him as he heads for the stairs. Lee and Bakes are staring each other down while Archer and Markus are talking with Bower and Walkins. Lee makes an "I'm watching you" movement to Bakes, who scoffs and flips her off. Lee returns the gesture as Dex pulls her up the stairs.

CUT TO:
EXT. OUTSIDE OF THE V.I.U - NIGHT
Dex and Lee walk out of the V.I.U. Lee has her backpack on and Dex has his satchel around his shoulder.
