Chris POV

After the eventful 10 minutes, I decided that it was best to close the cafe for the rest of the day. I called paramedics to the could check Manu over.

I walked over to Melissa, the lady who took my order. She was sitting by herself. Her daughter Abby was still next to where I was sitting.

I sat down in front of her. "Are you ok?" I asked she jumped. Looking up at me, I saw something in her eyes. I sat there waiting. "If you need to go home, you can.

I will make sure you get paid. On one condition" I started she looked up at me. "I take you and Abby out to lunch or dinner," he asked Melissa, she looked up at me, Her eyes were swollen and red.

"Who was that" I asked, hoping to get her to talk. She didn't reply to me. "Come sit with me and your daughter," I say with a smile.

She looks up at me and nods. "How can she go from the chirpy top so quiet," I asked myself.

I pulled out a chair for her to sit in. "Please let me take you and your daughter home," I begged her. "It's ok we can take the bus," she replied.

"Nope. Because I'm taking you shopping. You said you used your grocery on a taxi so when we get home to write a list and I will take you shopping," I told Melissa no questions asked.

"Oh, Mr Wood. You don't need to," Melissa started. "It wasn't an offer Miss Benoist," I explained. She sighed "OK," she replied.

"let me just get something to eat," she asked as she got up "Abby baby, Mr Chris will take us home and help us with some shopping," Melissa spoke trying to sound cheerful.

"Right this way, Miss Benoist" I spoke helping Abby. Melissa took her bag but Abby was slowly walking behind us. I picked her up.

"Mr Wood. How is Abby going to ride in the car if you don't have a car seat?" Melissa asked me.

"It's ok I already have a car seat in my car. I took care of my niece yesterday, and it's still in the car." I told Melissa, smiling she opened the door for me so I could put Abby into the car seat.

"Thank you," Melissa spoke quietly. "No worries," I replied as she placed her bags under the feet of her daughter. "Let me," I said as I wanted to open the door for her.

She smiled again. How can she not be used to this I thought to myself?

We arrived at Mellissa's apartment block; It looked. Unkept, litter everywhere. "We are on the third floor," she said as she showed me up the dirty staircase.

cringing at the sight I tried to keep a smile on my face, even though it's hard to when people live in places like this.

Melissa dug through her bag, finding her keys and opening the door. When she opened the door, I saw that the apartment was dark, dingy, and the sound of leaking taps.

"Um you can just put the bags down near the couch" she spoke quietly looking down and embarrassed. If I lived in a place like this, it would embarrass me.

"The kitchen is here" she spoke two feet away from where I'm standing. "Can I have a look around first?" I asked she shrugged her shoulders.

As I looked around, I noticed that there's only one bedroom which had Abby's bed in it, a built-in robe and an extra robe with clothes hanging out of it.

"Um Melissa, where do you sleep?" I asked her concerned. I looked over to the couch she was pointing at to see an unmade couch with sheets and a pillow.

Sighing, I walked 10 feet to the kitchen and looked through her cupboards to find a few items that were all junk and boxed heat-up meals, when I looked in her fridge I saw a few yoghurts and fruit, a small box of juice and a small carton of milk.

"Melissa, where is all your meats and vegetables," I ask concerned more for Abby's health. "I can't afford it and if I wanted meat and protein, I wouldn't be able to cook it anyway because my stove or oven doesn't work," she told me.  Shit.

"Why?" I asked, hoping for the best. "I don't have enough money to pay for my bills, hence why the heating and cooling doesn't work," she replies.

"Why aren't you asking for help?" I asked her. "My parents have done enough for me already I can't keep asking to pay for my bills," she wines. I sigh.

"Ok, lets go get some food and When we get back, I will sort out all your bills ok," I suggested "I can't let you do that," she told me. "It wasn't an offer Ms Benoist. I'm doing it no questions asked," I spoke sternly. "Um O... ok," she said stuttering and scared?

We drove to the shops in silence; I told Melissa she could get everything that she needed, Melissa hesitated at first but became more comfortable when I put in a few poultries and meat products in the trolly.

When I saw Melissa staring at a couple of female sanitary items, I pulled the cart next to her. "Get whatever one you want," I told her she went to grab the lowest-priced item looking at me embarrassed.

"Melissa gets more than that," I said, swapping it out for the sanitary items that she wanted. "Thank you," she whispered.

"Now, Abby, what foods do you want?" I asked Abby, "Chocket" she spoke happily. Smiling, we walked down isles making sure go get Abby items that she wanted along with healthy items.

When we reached the register and all the items scanned threw, Melissa winced at the price. "It's too much" she whispered at the young girl who was serving them looked between them.

"Mel it's ok" I replied pulling out my card  scanning it adding in my pin number do the transaction could go through.

Arriving back at her dump of the apartment complex and small apartment I put all her things away, giving Abby my phone so she could watch TV and relax while Melissa brought out all her bills.

"Ok, so is this everything?" I ask her she nods. "Would you like a drink?" She asked me. "A coffee would be great thank you," I reply. She nods going into a store cupboard to get a water bottle pouring it into the kettle.

Frowning I push it past me and got threw all her bills, seeing that she's more behind than I thought.

As I looked through, I noticed that there was an eviction noticed for three days from now. 4th November 2019

"Um, Melissa do you know that they will evict you?" I asked her. Turning to me looking at him, she broke down into tears.

"Melissa it's ok, stay here tonight and I will come back tomorrow I will help you ok. Pack all you can and I will get you to a safer neighbourhood." Chris told Melissa.

"Ok, I will give you my number so call me if you need anything ok. You too Abby" I spoke looking at Abby who was fast asleep on the couch.

"Thank you again, Mr Wood," Melissa told me and she walked me 5 feet to the door, waving me goodbye as I walked down the dirty corridor down to the parking lot covered in puddles of water from rain and snow.
