She bears a heavy heart

She is exhausted.

She smiles through hidden dismay.

For there are a few

Who look to her

To keep their insecurities at bay.

For these faces

She must live on

A general in a battlefield.

Or a mother

Whose warmth soothes a child.

So she stands

Apparently rejuvenated

And envelopes her brother in an embrace.

No matter how fake

There is now a smile on her face.

Whether any notice

her inner self loath,

it matters not.
