[Leon's POV]

Damnit! I slammed the shotglass on the table in the heat of my dispair. I should've been there. I should've done something. It should've been me...
Dark thoughts clouded my mind, followed by grief. (Y/n)...I am so sorry...you shouldn't be gone...not like this...
I sighed as I filled the small glass to the brim with the auburn liquid, and yet again downed it in one motion. I set the glass on the table again, looking up at the figure seated across from me.
"Leon? Were you even listening?" Chris questioned, sounding aggravated.
"Sorry. Got lost in thought. What did you say?" I kept my voice even, trying not to let my emotions seep through. Chris sighed and shook his head.
"I said, sitting here drowning yourself in a bottle of whiskey isn't gonna bring her back Leon." He stated, his voice holding numerous emotions, but I only picked up on one. Pity.
"Chris, what the Hell else am I gonna do? Huh! I lost my best friend and the love of my life in one fell swoop today! What do you expect? Me to go on like it's nothing? She was my everything." I sighed, trying to calm the violent shaking that has overcome my body. Glancing at Chris, I shook my head.
"I'm so--"
"Don't be." He cut me off. His voice sounded apologetic. I stared at him, perplexed.
"What?" I raised a brow, waiting for him to answer. He shrugged and poured himself a shot.
"I get it. (Y/n) was all you had. Just when you got used to having someone in your life, someone to love and care about, you had them ripped away from you." He looked at me, a stoic expression on his features. He downed the shot, wiping the remaining liquid off his face with his sleeve.
I nodded, looking at the half-empty bottle of Jack Daniels sitting in front of me. God. I can still hear her screams...
I closed my eyes, remembering the events that transpired up to this point.

[FLASHBACK--Leon' s POV]
"(Y/n)! Duck!" I yelled, throwing a grenade at the monstrosity before us. The female quickly dove behind one of the cement barricades sitting in the street. Another city, lost to the bastards who created this damn thing. Everyone's turned.
The President assigned us to this mission together. I objected to (Y/n) taking part in this, fearful that she would get hurt, but the President has final word, and he didn't listen to mine. Being old friends can only get you so far. (Y/n) would not take no for an answer anyway.
The grenade I had thrown exploded under the monsters feet, sending it toppling to the ground with a pained and inhuman screech. (Y/n) rushed it, spraying the creature with bullets. It screeched again, swinging one of its grotesque limbs towards her.
Before I could yell out and warn her, I was grabbed from behind. What used to be a person, but was now a walking corpse, had it's rotted hands on my shoulders, attempting to bite me. I grunted as I grabbed it's arms and flipped it over me. I heard a pained yell as I put the corpse down.
Glancing up in horror, I saw the beast had thrown (Y/n) into the wall, causing one of the exposed pipes to impale her torso. I ran at the deformed creature, dodging when it slammed it's massive fist down in attempt to crush me. I jumped onto it's arm, running up to its enormous head, and stuffed a grenade down its mouth, before jumping and tucking my knees in before I hit the ground.
I rolled, and immediately stood, running over to where (Y/n) layed on the ground, pale and bleeding.
"(Y/n)? Hey, it's me. Can you hear me? (Y/n)? Baby wake up, it's me. I'm right here." I spoked hurriedly, placing my hands over her wound to slow the bleeding. She groaned at the pressure and opened her eyes, a look of pain spread over her features.
"L-leon?" Her voice was quiet and pained, so much that it almost broke me just hearing her like this.
"Yeah. Yeah baby. It's me. Hold on okay? I'm gonna get you help." I whispered, placing my hand on her cheek reassuringly.
"D-did we kill h-him?" She spoke, coughing violently afterwards. I shushed her and applied a little more pressure to the wound.
"O-ow...Hey...Leon, don't l-look so sad." Her breathing became uneven as she began to let her eyes droop.
"Baby? Hey, (Y/n). You gotta stay awake okay? Baby? Please. Please (Y/n). Stay with me." I spoke frantically, trying to lull her back into consciousness.
"L-leon, I'm sorry. I let you down..." Her voice trailed of and she went limp. Tears welled in my eyes as I held her small frame. I hunched over her, pulling her body closer to me as I let out a pained yell.

[END OF FLASHBACK--Leon's POV]

I sighed, re-opening my eyes as a tear rolled down my face. I glanced up at Chris, allowing him to see how broken I truly was without her. Chris gave me, not a sympathetic look, but an empathetic one. He'd been through this, with Jill. He lost her to Wesker about a year ago. It was a tragic turn of events, for everybody.
I didn't bother pouring another shot, I just grabbed the bottle and began gulping down the liquid, reveling in the burning sensation it gave my throat. Once I had emptied the bottle, I set it back on the table. Chris stared at me in wonder as I turned and asked for a bottle of vodka instead of whiskey.
"I plan on not remembering tonight." I stated lowley, not making eye contact with the soldier across from me.
"Leon-" He stopped, staring past me, towards the door, his mouth hanging open in shock. Wondering what was so shocking, I turned and glanced. As soon as I saw what the cause of Chris's surprise was, I stood up hastily, causing my chair to scoot away from me.
There, in the entryway of the bar, stood my everything. A white bandage wrapped around her abdomen, she wrapped one arm around herself and used the other to lean on the wall. We locked eyes and time itself seemed to freeze.
She began to tear up as she stumbled towards where I stood, completely frozen in place. I finally snapped out of my daze and rushed to her, not allowing her any time to realize I was moving towards her.
I wrapped my arms around her, pulling her fragile body as close to me as humanly possible, and burried my face in the crook of her neck, inhaling her sweet scent. She smelled like vanilla, just like she always did.
"Leon, I-" I cut her off by planting my lips on hers, keeping one arm wrapped around her to hold her close while caressing her cheek with the other. The kiss lasted for nearly a minute before I pulled back, resting my forehead against hers.
"I thought I lost you." I spoke lowly, my voice breaking from me allowing every emotion I had been holding back, to seep through. She began to tear up as she placed her hands on the sides of my face and gently pecked my lips, whispering against them.
"I would never leave you. Not like that." I sighed in content, allowing a few tears of pure joy to slip down my face.
"I love you. So much." I whispered, placing a kiss into her hair as I continued to hold her close.
"I love you to."
