"Get back here!"

She was running, running faster than them, determined to get away.

She knew they wouldn't catch her if she just kept running.

Up a mountain she went, the one known as Mt. Ebbot.

They wouldn't follow her here, but still, she ran.

It started to rain, and she knew that she had to find shelter.

So she kept running.

She ran until she spotted a cave.

There! She thought.

She ran inside the cave, not paying attention to her steps.

She tripped on some sort of vine, falling into an abyss.

Falling into darkness.

She woke up on a bed of flowers, to a voice.

"Child, please wake up."

She kept her eyes closed and sat up.

"Oh, are you awake? Why don't you open your eyes, Child?"

It was a woman's voice, a kind one.

But she didn't want to open her eyes. She shook her head.

"But why not?"

She was going to say something, but terrible memories flooded into her mind and her words got caught in her throat.

Then she started crying.

"Oh my goodness, what is wrong? Have I done something to upset you?"

She shook her head again, and tried to stop her tears.

She was suddenly wrapped in what seemed like... fur?

She opened her eyes to see herself in a goat monster's embrace.

She had never felt so warm.

She was suddenly taken away from that warmth, and the shock had left her with her eyes wide open. Her right eye was yellow with purple spots, and her left eye was ruby red.

"Oh! You have decided to open your eyes!"

She didn't respond.

She was staring at the goat-monster's eyes.

They were a deep purple, with a loving warmth to them.

"Child, I have not introduced myself yet! My name is Toriel, I am the Caretaker of the Ruins."

"...My name...is...Alvaria..."
