Chapter 1-Minty With a Hint of Cinnamon and Chocolate

Stepping out of my dad's car I head towards the school gate. The wind blew causing a shiver to run up my spine,  making me pull my jacket's collar upwards.

I checked my watch and it read 8:00 am, mukhang late nanaman ako. Thirty minutes to be exact. Sana naman bigyan ako ni ma'am ng excuse dahil kani-kanina lang bumuhus ang ulan.

Nang malapit na ako sa classroom namin nakita ko na lumabas yung first subject teacher namin mula sa principal's office.

'Anong meron?' minsan lang pumapasok yung mga guro sa office. At kung pumasok man sila, it's either may special announcement or may meeting na magaganap.

I brushed it off thinking it's no big deal at nagmadaling tumakbo papunta sa classroom ng first sub namin bago pa 'ko makita ni Ma'am.

Pagkapasok ko sa classroom ay agad akong pumunta sa aking upuan at kumuha ng ballpen at notebook mula sa bag at nagkunwaring kumukopya ng equation na nakasulat sa board.

"Miss July Melodia Calypso may I ask why are you late?" Tanong ni ma'am nung pumunta siya sa harap ng blackboard.

I flinched when I heard my full name. 'How the heck did she find out that I'm late? Sinigurado ko namang di niya ako makikita.' I thought to myself and sighed as I stood up.

"I'm sorry for being late ma'am. Please excuse my tardiness, malakas po kasi kanina yung ulan at madulas yung kalsada kaya medyo mabagal yung pag-drive ni daddy." I explained hoping it's enough reason to be pardoned.

"Alright. I'll excuse you for today. You may take your seat."She stated and gestured for me to si down.

I muttered a 'thanks' and sat down while she continued where the lesson had been left off.

She talked about our usual topics related to math. Finding the lesson boring I tuned out her voice. I looked out the window beside me and started daydreaming.

Morning classes passed like a blur. Di naman ako nakinig sa mga teachers ko. They don't seem to mind anyways.

Di naman ako matalino pero di narin ako bobo,yung sakto lang. My grades are enough to let me pass atleast that's what I would say.

I went to the cafeteria alone as usual. Leaving my bag in the classroom. Call me anti-social but I just don't click with anyone in this school.

Tiningnan ko yung food items. 'Mukhang wala nanaman akong gusto dito.'

I sighed at bumili nalang ng cup noodles. I sat down at my usual table and ate silently.

June XX,20XX. Three weeks since classes started. It's my last year in highschool pero kahit na last year ko na wala paring pinagbago.

Ganun parin ang routine ko mula nung first year. An endless cycle of:
Wake up 5 am-shower-eat breakfast-school for 8 hours-go home-shower-study-sleep.

Ni isang exciting na pangyayari walang naganap. Nakaka-bored na yung ganitong cycle.

Sure may mga events kami sa school pero iba parin yun. Gusto ko yung nagkaka-adrenaline rush na excitement but a girl could only dream.

"Uyy nabalitaan mo?"

"Yung ano?"

"Walang klase daw mamayang hapon. "

My ears perked up and can't help myself from eavesdropping nung marinig ko na walang klase mamayang hapon.

"Ba't walang klase?"

'Bakit nga ba?' I asked myself and tuned in on the conversation

"Ewan ko. Pero narinig ko sa tabi-tabi na may tino-tour silang special guests ng school."

"Sino kaya yung guests na yun?"

"Baka mga pogi!!!"

I cringed mentally at what I heard. I mean seriously? Kapag may guests pogi agad ang hanap?

Keep your hormones in check my female co-species.

'No classes mamayang hapon. Mukhang pwede yung mga students na umuwi mamaya.' With that thought on my mind. Inubos ko kaagad yung noodles ko at dumeresto sa classroom namin para kunin yung bag ko.

As I walked towards the classroom the intercom suddenly buzzed alerting the students of an announcement.

The speakers projected the voice of Principal Edwin.

"My dear students as you by now have heard classes are to be suspended this afternoon."

At those words narinig ko ang mga salitang 'yes' 'nice' at mga hiyaw mula sa mga estudyante. I smirked and internally celebrated.

"However you are not allowed to leave the campus unless class hours are over. And if you spot our guests please greet them properly and treat them with respect. That is all you may now return to what you are doing."

Pagkatapos sabihin yun ni principal Edwin narinig ko yung panghihinayang at mga mura mula sa mga kapwa kong estudyante.

I checked my watch and it read 1:30 pm. 'Amazing three more hours at makakalabas na ako, note the sarcasm.'

Pinagpatuloy ko yung lakad papunta sa classroom para kunin yung bag ko. Pagkakuha ko ng bag ko pinagpasyahan kong tumambay sa garden ng school.

Medyo hidden yung garden ng school namin. Samu't sari ang mga bulaklak sa garden pero yung paborito ko dito ay ang mga white roses. Mayroon itong fountain sa gitna.

Nang makarating ako dun ay binaba ko yung bag ko at hinayaan lang sa bermuda. Ginawa kong unan yung bag ko at inilabas ang novel na 'Maze Runner'.

I took a deep breathe and I felt myself instantly feel calm. It felt so serene and peaceful.

Tahimik yung paligid, the sound of water flowing from the fountain, the rustle of grass and the gust of the wind are the only sounds you could hear.

As I read my novel my eyelids gradually felt heavier. I blinked and blinked to keep myself awake eventually losing the battle to sleep and let my eyelids close.

Nagising ako ng ma realize kong nasa iskwelahan pa ako. Bumangon ako at umupo habang kino-kusot yung mga mata ko. I stretched my muscles and yawned. Tumingin ako sa paligid at pino-process kung nasaan ako.

Then I felt something that was on my lap. 'A blazer? Pero kanino?' It was matte black and looked very expensive. Out of habit I lifted the blazer up to my nose at inamoy iyon.

It smelled minty with a hint of cinnamon and chocolate, definitely expensive perfume. Judging from the scent the owner of the blazer must be very well off to afford this type of perfume.

I checked the time and it showed 5:00 pm. By this time bukas na yung gate at pwede ng umuwi.

I stuffed my novel back into my bag and glanced at the blazer. I grabbed it and stood up.

I looked around once more looking for the owner of the blazer. After a few minutes I gave up. With no sign of him anywhere I shrugged and decided to bring the blazer with me.

'Ibabalik ko nalang to sa may-ari kapag nagkita kami.'

Umalis ako sa garden at nag bantay ng bus pauwi. It's been a long and boring day.

At natapos iyon nang makahiga na ako sa aking higaan.
