The story is set after the battle of the five armies, but has some flashbacks to before the botfa and before. Everyone that died in the battle is magically resurrected because I say so (and because it's way too sad if they weren't)
For your information, Bilbo was 50 when he started the quest, and returned to the shire 1 year later. Thorin was 195 years old when he started the quest and 'past away' a year later.
Fili and Kili have survived but have some scars/nightmares to remind them of those times. Dis and Frerin (Thorin's sister and brother) have survived and live in the iron hills under Daíns protection. Vili, the husband of Dis, has also survived and works together with Frerin as blacksmith, specialized in weaponry. Frerin would have wanted to go with Thorin but was too busy with his work and Thorin didn't ask him, afraid that he wouldn't be able to tell the story.
The Durins have lived quite a few years in the blue hills and met almost all of their friends there. After the news that Daín became lord, they soon came to the iron hills because the living conditions in those mountains were better, and they finally had rest and help for what they got through.
Vili and his sons had as much contact as they could during their adventure but Thorin forbid him from coming, still pretty salty that his little sister married a 'mere' dwarf. In reality Vili was quite the warrior but Thorin was overprotective of his sister.
Dis had cursed at Thorin for harming her sons, and would have dragged him on his ear to every dwarf that had gotten injured for punishment, but somehow Thorin knew exactly when to flee from his sister and survived the humiliation.
