Chapter 1: Reunion

I'm on my way to my first day at work. Ever since I graduated, this is the job that I wanted to get. It is so rare to find a job opening for a designer here in London. I excitedly went to the elevator, taking me up to the studio. The elevator doors are about to open and I'm already getting ready for a good first impression. Probably my boss is already waiting at the other side of the door, but it turns out, it wasn't him.

My heart jumped as I saw a man with a familiar face.

It's Joseph Desaulniers, the man who I met when I was still a bar attendant. He comes to the bar to talk about his past relationships. Most of his nights were sober and I would listen to him every time. We used to be close friends until he confessed his feelings for me. I was scared and I decided to reject him because that time I had mixed feelings and I couldn't comprehend myself. I was falling in love too but I'm getting anxious about what comes next. I even thought that I might be called a gold digger when they knew that he was dating a moderate girl like me.

I told him that we should stay as friends. I think I had hurt him badly. He just walked away without saying anything. After that night, we haven't spoken to each other again. He looked at me with the same surprised look that I had. I took out a deep breath to calm myself before stepping out of the elevator.I greeted him, hello.

It took him a few seconds to respond, he seems to be stuttering. I was about to ask his agenda here but I was interrupted by a voice calling my name."Miss y/n, the new designer of D' "Apparel". Nice to meet you, I'm Jack Hyde.I saw another man walking toward me. He introduced himself as the boss, he gave me a handshake and he introduced me to Joseph telling him that I'm the new designer in the studio. Jack calls him Mr. D in short for Mr. Desaulniers. He said that he is the CEO of this company. The guy who I rejected two months ago is a CEO, and I'm working under him.We had a little chatter until Joseph excused himself to go out for a coffee break. I was left with my boss then he escorted me to my office.

I stepped inside and I was in awe with what I saw. Everything that I need is already in place a sewing machine, dress form pattern table, and a desk. This is the life of a designer. I took a seat at my desk as I started to organize my things. I heard a knock on the door its Jack again. He is asking if there's anything I wanted to change. I said that everything is fine and out of curiosity I asked him on what is Mr. D doing here. He said that he dropped by to welcome the new designer. I bet he wasn't expecting me to be here.

I carried on my objectives for today until I was done. It felt so satisfying for my first day at work. I nearly forgot about the awkward reunion with Joseph. I already put away my things and getting ready to go home. I was about to sling on my bag when I heard a knock on the door.It's Joseph, I can tell it by seeing his silhouette from the frosted glass door. I wonder what he wants. I opened the door and I was welcomed by a warm smile. He is tapping his foot while slightly leaning on the doorway.He asked if I could have dinner with him. I was about to refuse because I want to head home early so I can easily commute. He insisted that he'll drive me home after. I gladly accepted his invitation. It's been a while since our last meeting. I think he just wants to catch up and have a friendly talk.

He escorted me to his car, we are silent for the entire trip. I was glancing at him from time to time, hoping that he would break the silence. We arrived at the restaurant, it's looking fancy than I expected. I never dined in underneath a chandelier before. He went to the reception area. He then states that he had a reservation, a table for two. I was surprised for a second because I was expecting us to be walk-ins. I think he had planned this earlier.
