Bev felt Jane's eyes on her, and turned her head. The two girls were smiling to each other, not saying anything. Max saw them and quickly walked to them, relieved to see Jane not drinking, but wondering why she was soaked.
- What happened!? asked Max.
- Oh, uh, I wanted to apologize to Clara, but she thought I wanted to have sex with her again, then we argued and she pushed me in the pool, explained Jane.
- What!? Are you ok!?
- She can swim! told Bev with a smile.
- Really!? I thought you couldn't!
- I learnt, answered Jane.
- Oh, well, that's nice! smiled Max.
She went on the other side of Jane and laid down next to her, and intertwined her fingers with hers, watching the sky too.
- I thought you were looking for something to drink...I'm sorry...
- Oh...Don't be, I understand.
- No, it's not fine, you spent five months in rehab, I should trust you...
- No, you don't have to, I fucked up so many times...you have all the rights to doubt on me, especially on this, even me I doubt on me, told Jane.
- I don't want to doubt on you...confessed Max.
- Don't force you, last time you saw me, I was over addicted and doing stupid and disgusting things and now I'm clean, you need time too, to see what changed. If...things changed.
- Of course things changed, you can swim! intervened Beverly.
The two girlfriends turned their heads to her with an amused smile while Bev was looking at her like if it was the most important thing. The three girls stood and went back inside. They found the boys and Mallory and Clarissa, and all sat on the couch, talking about their next year, until Clara approached them angrily.
- You really think it's gonna work between you!? Do you know how much you hurt her!? She had to go to a psychologist to surmount everything you've done!? told the brown head to Jane.
The ex-prisoner frowned and turned her head to her girlfriend.
- You...you saw a psychologist? asked Jane with a sad tone.
- My aunt and my uncle had sex with you! It's obvious that I saw a psychologist! You've no idea how hard it was to...accept what happened! answered Max.
- I...I'm so sorry...
- No, don't be, it's not your fault.
- Yes it is! I could have said no, but I never did!
- Jane, you were addicted and rejecting everyone, you were all alone, not understanding why it was wrong, you thought it was your only choice! I'm not mad at you! I'm mad at them!
- You're not mad at her!? intervened Clara. She sucked your uncle! Eat your aunt's pussy! Fingered both of them and let them fuck her! That's disgusting!
Max had a reflex she never thought she had. She quickly removed her hand from Jane's hand, and felt uncomfortable. Everything that Clara said was certainly true, and hearing it like that made her imagine all the scenes. Maybe she should see again her psychologist.
Jane looked at Max with sad eyes. Maybe it was too soon, Max didn't seem ready to be in relationship with her, and she could understand. She stood and walked away, not wanting to stay there more.
Max did the same, first, trying to follow Jane, but the girl was already far, and second, because she couldn't stand the others' eyes on her, judging her and her family.
- Did you really have to do that!? intervened Lucas.
- They're not endgame, answered coldly Clara.
- It's not up to you to decide this! They were fine, having fun together! stated Dustin.
- Jane is mine.
- But she doesn't love you! She loves Max, and Max loves her! That's all! She will never love you, especially after that! defended Beverly.
- I don't care, at least, they won't be together again.
- You really think they won't see each other after that!? Max waited for her for five months! They just need time to find each other again! Stay out of this, fucking bitch!
Clara saw red. She was going to jump on Beverly, but the redhead did it before. The two girls got lost in a brutal fights with punches, slaps and kicks. Lucas wrapped his arms around his friend and brought her outside. Bev wasn't just angry, she was worried. Jane left alone, and she hoped she wouldn't do anything stupid again.
Joyce was on the couch, watching TV, when she heard knocks at her door. She stood and, when she opened, she saw Jane with her backpack and a sad face.
- Jane? Are you ok? You're not supposed to spend the night with Max? asked Joyce with a concerned.
- Uh...I was wondering if I could stay here, for now, at least the night.
- Of course, you can stay all the time you want, you're always welcomed here. But, are you ok?
- Yeah...just...tired, weakly smiled Jane.
The mother didn't insist and let her in. She installed her on the couch, and stayed with her until she got asleep. Later in the night, Will came back. He was so relieved to see Jane here, he sent a message to the others to tell them, reassuring everyone. He explained his mother what happened, making her understand why Jane preferred coming here instead of staying with her girlfriend. Joyce placed a small kiss on the young girl's temple and went to sleep, thinking of it.
