I wake up earlier than I usually do and walk to the beach. I sit on the sand and watch the sunrise. Last night was amazing, performing in front of a crowd was like a dream. Knowing that there's a possibility I can do that for the rest of my life makes me really happy. I haven't told my family yet. When I got home from the club it was late. It took me forever to fall asleep because all I could think about was LA. I take a deep breath and make my way back to the house. When I walk inside I see my kapuna making breakfast.

"Ala aʻe ʻoe." Kuku says. You're up early.

"Pono e kamaʻilio e aʻu iā ʻoe. Aia i hea mama?" I respond. I need to talk to you guys. Where's mom?

Tutu and Kuku give each other this look and it kind of worries me. Kuku sits down and Tutu goes and gets Mama. I can't stop my leg from shaking and I refuse to make eye contact with Kuku. Mama walks into the kitchen and sits in the chair next to me.

"Kana what's going on?" Mama asks, looking at Kuku who just shrugs her shoulders.

Tutu sits down next to Kuku and they just stare at me.

"So last night-"

"Oh Kana tell me you didn't get some girl pregnant." Mama groans.

"No Mama!" I groan, rolling my eyes.

"E haʻi pono iā mākou ma mua o kou hāʻawi ʻana i kou makuakāne a me kahi puʻuwai puʻuwai." Kuku says. Well tell us already before you give your grandpa and I a heart attack.

"So last night I performed a song I wrote." I continue to tell my family about the events that happened last night. When I'm finished I take out my phone and show them the video Tadeas took of my performance.

"Isn't this amazing! Matthew wants me to come to LA with him. He sees my vision and believes in me." I explain.

"Kana I don't know." Mama says, rubbing her hands over her face.

"Mama it's a once in a lifetime chance. I'm just asking you for your blessing but with or without it I'm going." I respond.

"Mai hōʻole maikaʻi i kou makuahine iā ia!" Kuku yells. Do not disrespect your mother like that!

"How am I being disrespectful? I could have just left like Mama and not said anything!" I yell, leaving the living room and going to my room.

I pace around my room and punch the wall leaving a hole, fuck. If I wasn't getting my ass beat already I'm going to now. I sit on my bed and try to calm down. I hear the door open and Mama comes in. She sits down on the bed facing away from me.

"Is this really what you want to do?" Mama asks.

"More than anything." I respond.

"Okay you're my child and I love you no matter what."

Mama pulls me into her chest and I wrap my arms around her torso. "But if you ever speak to me like that again I'm going to beat your ass." I laugh and nod my head.

Mama and I decide to have a movie night like we use to when I was younger. There's a knock on my door and when it opens Tutu is standing at the door with snacks.

"He wahi moe paha kāu nā elemakule?" Tutu asks, with his signature smile on his face. Do you have room for an old man?

I smile, "Loaʻa iā mākou kahi lumi no kou kupuna." I respond. We will always have room for you grandpa.

Mama and I move over and make room for Tutu. He throws me a pack of dried mangoes and I squeal, they're so good! When the move ends Mama is asleep.

"ʻIke ʻoe i ka hopohopo wale nei lākou." Tutu says. You know they are just worried.

"I know, but this is my Dream Tutu I have to try."

"Loaʻa iā ʻoe koʻu hoʻomaikaʻi akā ua hoʻohiki ʻoe iaʻu e ʻaʻole e poina i kou ʻohana." You have my blessing but you must promise me you won't forget your family.

"Ua hoʻohiki wau." I promise.

Tutu takes the trash out of my room and leaves, closing the door behind him. I take my phone off the charger and call the number Matthew gave me.

Matthew: Hello?

Kana: Hey Matthew, it's Kana.

Matthew: Kana, I'm glad to be hearing from you! So have you thought about my offer?

Kana: Yes, I want to do it.

Matthew: Awesome! We can meet up later on today and I'll give you all the information. Trust me you won't regret this decision.

Kana: Thank you for this opportunity.

Matthew: We're going to do great things. I'll see you later.

"You're going to be amazing."

I turn around and see Mama is awake. I smile and she wraps her arms around me.

"I'm scared." I mumble.

"Well if you weren't I would be concerned." Mama chuckles.

I sit up and turn so I can look at her, "Listen love, life is scary but you can't let fear hold you back. That song you wrote is amazing. I want you to go and live your dreams. I want you to accomplish everything and so much more."

"I love you Mama."

"I love you too Kana."
